After all it really wan't much of a war until we got there. That's what my history teachers always told us. Let's see if Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg agree.

Hitler invaded Poland, Britian got involved as did the rest of the allies (France and Russia), Germany attacked Holland and Belgium and then marched towards France! Hello! Dunkirk! Germany forced British troops to the shores and The troops had to be rescued by fishing boats! Battle of Britain! Air raids in Briatin and Germany! The Blitz! So much rationing in Britain, Germany and many other countires and regions. Germany invaded Russia! All of this in that time period, not to mention all the terrible terrible stuff that happened to the Jews! Opposistion in Germany were shot, people were gased! forced to live in concentration camps like Auswitch! Not much of a war before you joined in? Do me a favour.

actually i was just trying to sarcastically comment on all the previous nonsense that had been said although i admit it you paid way more attention in high school than I did.

In 1914, Europe was a powder keg ready to explode. The assasination of the Austrian Archduke just set it in motion. Austria declared war on Serbia. Germany was allied with Austria. They were looking to expand into France, and this caused the French to enter the war. When the Germans entered neutral Belgium the British and Canadians entered the war. The Germans then began moving against Russia which then sided with the French/British. The Turks joined Germany and tied up British/Australian Forces in the Middle East. It wasn't until 1917 when the Americans joined did the tide truly turn, since all German/Austrian and British/French/Canadian/Italian/Russian/Australian manpower reserves were near exhausted.

I got told this on Tuesday, God knows it was something about Germany just being formed, and it missed out on gaining an empire, then they took over Paris, everyone got pissed of and someone killed someone else which started the whole thing off! Seemed like a whole mess over nothing to me...

Do you think the Americans would care about this war if they weren't involved in it at all. It would be considered a footnote in world history for them.
