I am quite sick of this show now. After seeing the season finale I knew this was going to happen. I knew something of this nature was going to happen, it was just messed. They have better fix this in the next season, or I for one am not going to be watching!. Why do they have to keep delaying ross and rachels reunion. This season finale was a huge mistake, rachel only said okay because she was afraid she would be alone, and ross was on his way to propose to her, so obviously in the new season, ross is going to throw a sissy fit with joey, its just messed, this whole thing is going to go on until they are in the month of november or december!

I know what you mean, im soo mad right now!!!!!! I actually screamed at my tv... That is probably the WORST season finale i have ever seen. Usualy a season finale is supposed to make you anxious to se the next season, but this on the other hand.... hopefully they will make things better for the next season (we all know that Ross and Rachel have to end up together). The only thing not so bad about this episode was Monica and Chandler making plans for a baby...

I thought that it was one of the best episodes ever of Friends!!!! I LOVED THE CLIFF-HANGER!!! Of course they'll have her end up with Ross next year (Urgh!!!!) but SHE SO SHOULD BE WITH JOEY!!!
I thought this was a great season finale. It wasn't the best season finale ever, but it was still really good.
First of all, Ross and Rachel were incredibly sweet together tonight. In fact, it was the first time in a long time that I actually found myself rooting for them. I loved how Rachel freaked out when all the other women started having babies. And when Janice entered? So funny! When I heard that Janice was coming back for the finale, I immediately thought she was going to create tension between Monica and Chandler, but she was so much better as "annoying woman in labor." Also, who would have thought that Janice would be the one to make Rachel think twice about her future with Ross?
As for Monica and Chandler; finally a really interesting story about these two characters! I had a feeling Monica would bring up babies in this episode, but I had never expected Chandler to be the broody one! That was so great and funny! In fact, the way they kept looking for a place to have sex, reminded me of early season 5. Also, I think this story is a sign that Monica and Chandler will get to start their own family very soon...
Obviously, Phoebe and Joey were going to be left on their own in the finale, and while their story was amusing, it could have been improved. Still, Joey pretending to be Dr. Ramoray while asking Cliff sex-questions was funny, and he was spot on when he agreed that Phoebe keeps dating losers.
As for the cliffhanger itself, I thought it was really good. However, I think it's important to remember that Joey wants Ross and Rachel to be together, and he didn't propose. Rachel's reaction was clearly a result of the fact that she was depressed and very insecure about her and Emma's future. But still, Ross's reaction will be crucial here. This might become very important for Ross and Joey's friendship, and if Ross gets the wrong idea, who knows what will happen. Therefore, Ross and Joey's friendship is probably once again going to be the most important issue here.
I LOVED this ep. I thought it was so funny. When Rachel started o push and she hit Ross so hard that he fell, I was laughing so hard, but when he yelled up "keep pushing", I was laughing so hard that I had tears in my eyes and couldn't catch my breath. i am one of those people that loves every ep. though, and NEVER wants this show to end.

In terms of "season finale" i think this DEFINATELY get people to tune in to the first episode of season 9. But in terms of "liking it"....well...not really. As someone said before...I liked the finale up to the last scene. W
What pisses me off the most at this moment is that I know there will be people popping up who were for R & J and they will say "See, they belong together" and "See....Rachel DOES like Joey" and I personally feel the last scene does not support those two phrases. 1) Rachel misunderstood, 2) Ross was going to propose, 3) Joey better fix this next season and not be selfish and go with the whole thing just because he HAD feelings for Rachel. As we saw from the last 4-5 episodes...he no longer has feelings by the way the writers "closed" that "Joey Loves Rachel" situation.
I feel so sorry for Ross. I was on the verge of tears seeing him coming out of the elevator with those flowers. That b**** Janice deserves that ugly son of hers. And Joey wasn't as comforting as I thought he would be if he supposedly still loved her. He was quite comfortable with Rachel delivering the baby and then holding her baby. Like I mentioned before "no love in sight."
I would hope that the "mix-up" gets cleared in the first episode (or at least, first two). I mean, how in the world (even in the name of "comedy") would a man propose to another woman with another man's ring??? I'm thinking Ross will come into the room, see Joey with the ring, ask about it, Rachel says that Joey proposed and she said yes, and Ross will clear up the confusion with, "No silly, that's MY ring for YOU". *shrugs* Wishfull thinking, I guess...

I'm sorry, but I don't think any newborn deserves to be called ugly. Have you seen a newborn up close right after birth. Most are not that easy on the eyes except to parents. I've had two by C-section that came out with perfectly shaped heads and I thought the sun rose and set on their beauty. But to be honest when I go back and look at the pictures in the first days I wonder how I thought they were so beautiful. Just another instance of how you see everything in a more positive light soon after birth.

That's why this was a poor clifffhanger. There's no suspense about how this'll eventually turn out. Now, if Joey had proposed, that would have worked. If Joey had told Rachel the ring was from Ross' jacket and she thought Ross was about to propose, that would have worked too, but there's no uncertainty this way.

True. However, this very effectively makes it impossible for Rachel to accept either proposal. By accepting what she thought was Joey's proposal it has forced her eyes open to feeling she may have for Joey. I mean sometimes you can spend months mulling things over in your sub conscious without realizing it. Then at some instant in time you open your month and say something without thinking and it takes your breath away. You know in your gut what you said feels right for you, but you are shocked of how you came to this feeling. It opens a door and allows you to look at things from a different angle and explore how you really feel.
Even if you think she only agreed, because she was afraid of doing it alone. Her acceptance of what she thought was another man's proposal clearly shows she wasn't in the right place to accept Ross.

I think it shows that she isn't in any shape to be accepting any major life changes right now. The baby is a huge life change that will take everything she has for a while.
Which was eventually coming, but gyah! To try to conceive in the hospital...I just thought that was in bad taste, but I suppose it was funny in it's own twisted way. :p
I found the season finale simply divine. I can't wait to see it unfold. Ross and Rachel would be stupid, crazy, insane to get engaged immediately after the birth of a child. Emotions are high. Everyone is all wrapped up in the incredible glorious emotion of the new arrival. All this abundance of love is in the air. Not a good time to make life decision...
Plus I think Ross was correct. He has a long term history/habit of divorce.
I think Phoebe showed great wisdom in her scene with Ross near the end. Good to see that from her. I believe, before a year from now arrives, Ross & Rachel WILL be together. I buy the idea that they've been in big denial that they aren't in love. The issues that keep them from acknowleging this are very real, and not so easy, but I think all the back and forth will come to an end, for real, next year.
I also like the Joey angle. I'm not such a who-with-who partisan. I think the dramatic/comedic tension there will be interesting. could keep next season on a this-season high. I believe one can feel for both Ross and Joey, and obviously for Rachel. It's R&R in the end(anytime next season), but not an easy road to get there. I will post in more detail later; right now I'm trying to decide if I won or lost the bet. It seems a tad ambiguous. In short, however, I think the writers did a very good job of adding suspense to a situation which would otherwise have been a predictable or maudlin situation. There is a lot of suspense here, but as a Ross and Rachel fan I am comforted by several things.
1. Ross is in love with Rachel. Phoebe knows it, and they are discussing it honestly.
2. Not only did Joey not actually propose marriage to Rachel, he *knows* that Ross may be having thoughts along those lines. Joey may be in love with Rachel, but he is, without question, the Friend who lives by the strictest internal ethical code. Joey does not like men who muscle in on the love lives of their friends. He has never tolerated it in others and he was appalled at the urge in himself. There is absolutely no chance he's going to behave as if the proposal was real, especially since the ring doesn't even belong to him.
3. Although Rachel has said yes, she didn't do it for the right reasons. She didn't do it out of love; she did it because Janice scared her.
This is actually a very good cliffhanger. It provides very fertile ground for all kinds of conflicts to be resolved, and lots of grist for comedy. Joey CANNOT allow Rachel to continue thinking that he's proposed. If she starts wearing that ring, Ross is going to find out. Joey MUST correct Rachel. Then we have complications; how will Rachel react to the fact that she just accepted a marriage proposal that doesn't exist from a man who didn't intend it? How will Joey accept the idea that he's the second string? Will Ross find out? How hurt and betrayed is he going to feel? How will it affect his relationship with both of them? Lot of good stuff here. And aside from that, I liked the episode in general. I even enjoyed the Monica/Chandler plot. Maybe those two could spice up their story by sneaking around doing things they shouldn't all the time.
The only thing I would add to that is I would be PISSED if my buddy did that. (showed the ring to the girl I was planning on proposing to thus ruining any surprise)
I proposed to my wife a little over a year ago and didn't tell anyone about it other than her parents and mine. I had talked about with my buddies but they didn't know when or where. (ironic enough, my wife's name is Rachel) If they had found the ring they would have played dumb about it.
Yes, I know Joey doesn't know if the ring was for Rachel but he believes that it is by the look on his face.
Even if it isn't for Rachel, he should have closed the box and put it back in the jacket, then pulling a Joey goof to throw Rach off the trail.
If the ring was for Rachel, ya don't tell her about it and if the ring was for another woman, you still don't show it to her because of what she just said.

This is the thing I didn't like about the season finale. Rachel has always been so adament about not getting married because she has to, only for love. Now I understand she's worried about being alone and she has all these hormones rushing through her right now, but I still don't think she'd say yes to Joey's marriage proposal. Hehe. I was pretty sure that Joey would stick the ring back into the jacket and play dumb while being secretly heart broken again. I think he was so caught off guard by the ring and it jerked him emotionally that he unwittingly turned around and "exposed" the ring to Rachel.
I absolutely loved it!! Lots of laughs. It had me cheering through most of it. A very good season finale :)
I didn't buy that Ross is in love with Rachel. Even last episode, it was Rachel who was shown to have some feelings for Ross. We had no such indication from Ross. Even in this episode, Phoebe has to push him to bring back his fantasies since he was fifteen. Having just experienced the birth of his daughter, he would be on an emotional high and would love the woman who brought his child into the world regardless but asking him to go after Rachel in that situation isn't very smart. Should they decide to do it after a few months, it'd be more believable.
Yep. This is true. He will be quick to explain that the ring isn't his. But to me, I thought that he accidantly revealed the ring to Rachel because he was shocked by the realisation that things were moving with Ross and Rachel even though he has been dealing with the rejection quietly. This could open up the Joey in love with Rachel story again in full force.
Agreed. It was a complete contrast to 801 where she decided that she wanted to have the baby. Of course, she has only just given birth. Once she gets back home and she may decide that she doesn't need the daddy hanging around much. :)
I didn't think it was a very good cliffhanger initially but come to think of it, it's not what is going to happen in 901 but how they will handle the first episodes in dealing with this situation. We all know that Joey will be quick to correct Rachel. If Ross walks in and misunderstands, that too will be quickly resolved. If he decides to step back, that wouldn't work either because Joey & Rachel would know he wanted to propose. The real question is how these Friends will handle it? :)
BTW, I don't think that Joey will see himself as second string since he didn't know that Rachel was seriously considering Ross.
I totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised since I thought something was wrong with the last couple of episodes. 821 showed a side of Rachel that should never be allowed to emerge, while 822 was not as funny as it could have been. Perhaps it was the writers forcing Ross and Rachel to have some romantic and sexual tension, but there was something there that wasn't right. Here, on the other hand, Ross and Rachel were good together.
Yeah, this is so true. You can't base your feelings on what happens after you've just seen a friend of you giving birth to your baby. Of course he's going to be emotional about it, and he clearly isn't thinking rationally. If only Judy could have stayed away from the hospital and realised that you don't have to be married to have a child together.
Yeah, we know how Joey is, and seeing that this guy thinks of his friends as his family and loves them more than anything, there is no chance he will go along with it and not tell Rachel about it. Therefore, he will set Rachel straight right away, and while he's doing that Ross enters.
In fact, I don't think the cliffhanger is the ring itself since that will be sorted out rather quickly. The problem here is if Ross enters to see Joey on his knees. That might drive a wedge between the two friends that might never really heal, so the last season can be about Joey trying to make it up to Ross, even though he didn't do anything wrong.
The real problem here is that Rachel immediately said "okay." When Ross finds out about Rachel's answer, he'll definitely be quite shocked, and if he planned on proposing to her, that plan will get cancelled rather quickly. Ross needs to find out if he really wants to spend the rest of his life together with a woman who not only has treated him like dirt for a long time, but also she immediately said "okay" to another guy's "proposal" a couple of hours after she gave birth to Ross's daughter. This will undoubtedly take at least a couple of episodes to sort out, and they will leave us wondering until at least November or February sweeps.
Meanwhile, Rachel has to figure out her true feelings for both Ross *and* Joey when she's not that affected by the birth itself. I don't see how she can be committed to Ross right now, since she accepted Joey's "proposal," and she has also spent the last couple of episodes ridiculing Ross and demanding that he's going to be her slave of some sort.
As for Joey, he'll probably spend quite a lot of season 9 trying to mend his broken heart. His feelings were on display in that last scene with Rachel, and he's clearly not over her yet. Also, his commment about Rachel being the perfect woman showed us that he still loves her, even though he's aware of the fact that he probably never will get to date her for real.
These questions should make season 9 really interesting, but there's one thing I'm worried about; if Ross, Rachel and Joey keep having stories together, Chandler, Monica and Phoebe will be left on their own, which means that we won't get all the unusual stories we have wanted this year. Will Chandler and Monica once again spend every episode together? Will Phoebe date Cliff for a while until she starts dating losers again?
You know, I recently saw a show on childbirth, and frankly, if I hadn't known that JA isn't pregnant, I'd have thought she was actually having a baby. So often they gloss over that, but this seemed very real. I appreciated it. Well done.
After seeing the season finale I didn't like the cliffhanger because I thought it was inexistent since to me it is clear that Ross and Rachel will end up together. However now that I've read so many posts of people actually thinking that Joey might end up with Rachel and some variations and options I give credit to the writers because it really is a cliffhanger, making people ranting, debating (showing a lot of emotion of possible plots). I still think Ross and Rachel will end up together but now I see that is going to be delayed for a couple of episodes.

Maybe not, but the whole point of a cliffhanger is to keep us waiting for four months. Of course they weren't going to resolve things. Continuing storylines are NEVER resolved in cliffhangers.
Personally, I LOVED this episode. The humor (Janice's appearance, Ross lying on the hospital bed) & the emotion (Phoebe's talk with Ross, Joey telling Rachel he'll always be there for her) were both incredible. The cliffhanger was amazing, although I think we all know Rachel will end up taking back what she said. All in all, a great season finale!

I loved the first 50 or so minutes of it but as soon as Joey walked into Rachel's room after Janice (who I now can't stand because of this) planted those thoughts in her head I knew what was coming and was furious by the end. In fact, it was probably my favorite episode until that point, but then the writers had to go and ruin it with the stupid soap opera ending. Ross & Rachel's yo-yo act stopped being entertaining once a child became involved. If I wanted a soap opera, I'd watch one. Why do sitcoms need cliffhangers anyway? Unless I hear what I want to hear in the Season 9 spoilers, I may find something else to do on Thursday nights next season instead of wasting my time on what used to be a great show.

Unless they really want to ruin the character of Joey, one can consider it a given that he's going to tell Rachel that he isn't proposing, he just found the ring in Ross' pocket (or something along those lines). I think the cliffhanger is not about Joey and Rachel but about Joey and Ross. When Ross sees Joey on one knee with a ring in his hand, how is he going to react? I'm already sending out my prayers that TPTB spare us the comeback of Mental Geller.
I wonder if the J/R fans really want their couple to get together like this? Over a misunderstanding? And Joey not clearing up the misunderstanding but actually benefitting from it, and even worse, using Ross's ring to propose to Rachel? Come on, does anybody seriously believe this will happen? That sounds like something Joey's evil twin Hans would do, but not Joey, who has always stepped down for his friends' sake. J/R may happen somewhere in the 9th season, but it won't be 901, I think that's rather certain.
Other than the cliffhanger, I have to say it was a really good episode, the M/C story was really good compared to their standard. That scene about "watch me freak out Chandler" alone was easily funnier than everything else they have done in S8 together. Phoebe was just great in this episode. She surely has her own methods, using Dr. Drake Ramoray to gather information over a prospective boyfriend (I reckon this guy is going to be around for longer, you don't introduce a guest star in the last episode of a season just to kill him of right in the next opener) and then there was Sensible Phoebe when she talked to Ross. One might even say that she talked Ross into whatever he was about to do before the ep ended.
And finally, I usually don't comment on the acting, since I don't know anything about it, but what DS and JA did was simply amazing. Especially DS in the scene with LK. Throughout the whole finale, one could see how torn and insecure about what to do Ross was inside, but it reached a new level when Ross talked to Phoebe. wow!
Because to have had them officially get back together because of the baby would have been too predicable. Something *had* to go wrong, and it'll probably be resolved at some point during the next season.
