Shocking Schwimmer

Last night I saw this American show on our local Belgian TV station called "Shocking USA". It's a show that centers around video tapings featuring 'shocking'(!) stuff. And I'm told every episode has a different theme. Well, last night the theme was "The Price Of Fame" and it was about celebrities who lose their temper with paparazzi and verbally and sometimes even physically assault them. I know it's pure sensation and plain wrong, but I have to admit I was intrigued and intentionally watched it. On the show there was this fragment about the Friends actors. Just after doing a Friends show the actors were going to their cars when paparazzi literally surrounded them and really started to harass them. Kudrow, Aniston, etc. were looking down and running to their cars whilst literally having to dodge paparazzi . David Schwimer however wanted to reason with them. But the paparazzi were incredibly rude and started ganging up on him and calling him some names I think. Although he was obviously irritated and even a bit freightened Schwimmer was incredibly polite and gentlemanlike. I really admired him for that. Did anyone in the forum see this show? I'd also like to know around when this taping was made. Thanks.

Must have been a Herculean effort for him. I know I would be a terrible celebrity, always having my goons break people's arms & stuff. Gad, I would *never* want to be famous. Yeah, you should have seen it. This one paparazzo was almost literally in David's *nose* with his camcorder. It was really degrading so in a very gentle fashion David touched the cameraguy's chest and sort of "pushed" him but you wouldn't be able to move a baby with that push. Then the guy started shouting "Thanks a lot David, thanks a lot for pushing me!" and the other paparazzi too "Hey David, who do you think you are, attacking us, we have a right to be here, etc...". They totally got under his skin. He was like "Please you guys, I did not push you, please don't say that." I never really knew how '(c)rude paparazzi were. In every fragment they showed the papparazzo was doing his utter best to make the celebrity lose it. This one guy made Cher curse her lungs out to his camera and then said to himself "I could not have paid for this. This is gold!". I would normally not endorse this kind of program but this one is really worth seeing. Also the stuff with Michael Jackson was -I'm sorry- quite funny. When he was shopping for baby clothes and saw that he was being filmed he started crawling around on the floor behind a baby carriage that he made his lawyer guy push around.

PS: If the paparazzi think David was bad, Shannen Dougherty ran over a paparazzo with her Mercedes!

It must get extremely annoying to have to put up with that all the time. Heck, I hate having to get my picture taken for Christmas cards (one a year). I can't imagine every day. . . .

I think candids are so much more interesting. It shows these people "living in the same world" we do, instead of an imaginary place we can't even get to. But then, like you, I also look at the "results" these paparazzi gangs produce, and I feel a little guilty for doing so.

David is a extremely nice guy!!! I met him a little less than a month ago and he actually remembered the letter i wrote to him from a year ago. I have never seen it, but I read somewhere (probably some garbage magazine) that he actually exploded at the paparazzi. I must say that I had a hard time believing it because he seems so nice on interviews, ut you've just confirmed that it was wrong, so thanks!
