Actually, in it's original usage, the word "Satan" is not quite right, because it is a Hebrew word that means accuser. As a matter of fact the best modern word to translate Satan is "prosecutor" as in the prosecuting attorney in a court of law.

"Devil" (or diabolos in the Greek) is really the word I was thinking of. "Demon" (daimonian or something like that) also works.
