Where is she? And didnt' she break up with Ross after the whole "new lock and key" incident in TOW Ross Step Forward?

I was wondering what has happened to her as well. I am sure they didn't break up though. After he told her that he loved her and she said that she loved spending time with him, it was left at that.

I wouldn't doubt that the plan to exploit the J/R thing for a while before showing the break up of Ross and Mona. Then, Ross will finally ask Rachel to marry him as she's being taken to the hospital to have the baby.

Nice isn't it? But you know why it won't work. Because he's already said this to Carol in Season 1 and didn't work then either. If they do it like this, then they might as well air reruns cos its been done before. Besides Ross isn't the same sweet guy from Season 1 anymore.

I have to agree that Ross was vulnerable and sweet early on, and now he's just a bumbler. I'd really like to see him get his act together though. A friend of mine thinks that being with Rachel would help ground him. Although I like the idea of Ross with Rachel, I think he needs to get his act together first. He's in his thirties for heaven's sake. It's time to grow up. If he can't do that, then they definitely don't belong together.

On the issue of bringing up things from previous seasons, frankly, I love it when they make references to stuff from the past. I think it ties storylines together and smooths the rough edges of the arc. As far as expressing love for Carol, well, that was a lost cause. Carol had no attration for Ross at the time. I doubt she ever did. Rachel still loves Ross, IMO. The two haven't expressed feelings for each for a very long time, but it's still there especially in the things they don't say, the pauses, the looks.

As I've mentioned in recent posts, although I still hold out hope for Ross and Rachel, I can live with it either way. I sincerely believe they still want to be together, but they don't know how to make it happen. I'm all for the Nike approach, "Just Do It."

All it says for me is, "Sometimes I can't believe it's with you." She simply can't believe it, neither a good thing nor a bad thing. It could be completed by the translation, "I wish it had been with someone else" or it could finish as, "after all we've been through--finally." Or she could have just been ribbing him about the situation.

I'm not sure the writers, producers, etc. poured over the words a great deal, but it seems to me that they left things open so that they could either way in the future, depending on how things develop.

This is assuming that what happened in the past will happen again. I don't agree. People learn from their mistakes. Ah . . . well, poor argument there I admit. Sometimes people don't learn. And Ross would be one of those people based on his history. Still, *I* prefer to hold out hope that he can pull himself together. Maybe I'm just an optimist about the potential in people.

It's the STILL in the sentence that makes the difference. It was quite a loud and excited 'still'. :)

The person who has transcribed this episode had left out the still. I pointed it out to them, cos I feel it makes a lot of difference and conveys Rachel's POV on the issue.

Fair enough but the scene between Ross and Rachel arguing over baby names in 813 bought back memories of season 2,3,4. <shudders> Sorry, not a pretty picture so far.

Rachel is always making cheap shots at Ross. He was annoying her quite a bit at the moment she said that. However, if she really can't believe she's stuck with Ross as the father of her child, she might want to look at her own behavior and figure out why she pursues him once or twice a year. She didn't "pursue" him while he was with Elizabeth, so your theory is wrong. Actually, Rachel got the better end of that deal by getting to hook up with Bruce Willis!!! In that same episode when Ross asked Rachel why she was kissing Paul he told her he didn't like it (or something along those lines, can't remember verbatim), but when she answered him with "you dated my sister, that made me feel wierd" he said THAT didn't count because Rachel kissing Paul was weird for HIM (Ross). OK, how much more selfish could he have been at that point? It's always been about Ross. Even when his parents blamed Chandler for the pot smoking incident even though Ross lied and told his parents it was Chandler's fault when it wasn't? When Monica threatened to tell her parents the truth if Ross didn't? What did Ross do? Tried to come up with ways he could convince his parents somebody TRICKED him into smoking pot!!! Those are not good examples(or examples for that matter). The "smoking pot" thing wasn't serious, it was supposed to be a "fooling around" thing. Ross isn't being selfish in those things, its just he's being "Rossy" remember Ross telling Phoebe he wanted to stay married to Rachel and Phoebe's like "oh you think that if she moves in with you that she will fall back in love with you" and he's like "maybe," see thats being "Rossy." You have chosen your illustration extremely poorly. Ross turned down Jill's advances out of respect for Rachel's feelings. Rachel told Ross she didn't really care how he felt about Paul, she was gonna do it anyway. The writing of Ross' response to the Paul thing was very shallowly, poorly written there, and I think the reason why is that the writers dared not give him a response that indicated intelligence. The smallest spark of real reflection on the case would lose the argument for Rachel and would mean the producers firing their sweeps star, Bruce Willis. The success of that line "It was weird for ME" was entirely dependent on the audience not actually remembering the ending of the Jill saga well. *No* argument you make on that particular comparison is going to work in your favor because it is almost an exact parallel, and Rachel refused Ross the consideration he had previously given her.

I might counter that in this season Rachel told everybody that Ross had begged her to sleep with him and he decided he didn't want to show the videotape that proved *she* *was* *lying* (for no particular reason) because he respected her feelings more than she respected his at the time and he didn't want to embarrass her. I might also bring up the time Rachel demanded that Ross, then her boyfriend, take abuse upon abuse from her father and apologize unilaterally no matter how badly Dr. Green treated him. Ross complied. That's two examples of Ross being unselfish. If you come up with another selfish anecdote, I will find another unselfish anecdote. "Always, always" isn't true. By the same token, when I run through my list of times when Rachel's nasty behavior made my hair stand on end, you will be able to counter with kind things she did. A flame war on who is more or less selfish isn't really going to go anywhere because we both have ridiculous amounts of valid ammunition. Neither one of these losers treat each other well all the time.

Friends cannot have a baby together and keep being friends, IMHO. They have to be either getting closer or apart.

It isn't that Rachel has no love for Ross at all; she just can't seem to decide what to do with it. For whatever reason, every 12-18 months or so these two people who supposedly got over each other five years ago get together and do something which is neither platonic nor wise, and then refuse to think through why they have this cycle of behavior.

Ross and Rachel break up. It's over. Until Ross gets a girlfriend and Rachel balds her in an attempt to get him back.

That reunion lasts a couple of days. Then it's over. Until Ross gets engaged and Rachel flies across the Atlantic to interrupt his wedding. Complications end up ruining Ross' marriage.

Rachel decides she doesn't want him after all. It's over. Until she dances in front of his window naked and he mistakes it for a comeon. After a drunken fight, she asks him to marry him and then he is exceedingly reluctant to annul it.

She divorces him. It's over. Until Monica and Chandler get engaged so she makes a pass at Ross and freaks Monica out.

But she didn't really mean it. It's over. Until in a horny moment she tries to entice him with a sex story and they end up making a baby.

This situation is not entirely healthy, and I don't think Joey's going to be able to fix it. For whatever reason, these two neurotics seem to assume that the other is and must always be available as their last resort, and now that they share a child the cycle will be even more difficult to break. There's some kind of residual neediness that binds them and it crushes all the Emilys and the Joshuas and the Julies and the Tags that stand in their way. Joey can't fix it. A good psychiatrist could, maybe (and both need to go) but this is not a good situation for Joey to get himself embroiled in.

I guess it's just jealousy on my part, but I want some kind of reunion show for all the women in Ross' life including but not limited to Julie, Bonnie, Chloe, Emily, and maybe Janice.

I think she just disappeared, just like the chick and the duck. Eternal_Jupiter is right, she has to be off the show and soon!
