Rachel is awesome

I love the fact that Rachel is getting most of the story lines, and that SHE is the one that is pregnant. She has always been my favorite friend and have always thought that Jennifer Aniston deserved an Emmy for her role on friends. She is way under rated as a comic performer. remember the episode where Rachel tries to impress Josh-ua by wearing a cheerleading uniform just to end up imbarassing herself.

This last episode "The one where Rachel tells..." was so great. Rachel made me laugh and cry. I loved it when she couldn't even see the baby (they have to nickname their baby peanut). It made it more real. Those things are hard to see. If Jennifer Aniston doesn't get an Emmy for this season I will have to boycott the Emmy awards FOREVER. Rachel#1

well, i couldn't agree more. And there's something i noticed.I know r and r fans will agree with this: This season, Friends has had amazing numbers each night. The last few seasons (when mondler absolutely domintated almost every episode, sorry m and c fans) Friends's viewership had gone down. But now, it's breaking records; as someone posted here, 31 million people watched the premiere. Now i COULD be wrong, but i think the fact that the main storyline is revolving around r and r, more people are watching. Frankly, people would rather see shows about them.

But yeah, I agree. People are sick of the Mondler story, and DS and JA both said in an interview that they were amazed with the audience's reaction to Ross being the father. They were surprised that people were still invested in the R&R relationship. I'm glad to see that we've been right all along. ;-)

The show has fallen into a lag mode twice. It happened in season four, and it took Chandler and Monica to perk it up. It happened in seasons six/seven, and it took Ross and Rachel to perk it up. The formula appears to be this; the writers take a great idea which makes the show sparkle, run it completely into the ground, and the show languishes until they find a new direction, which makes it sparkle until they run it into the ground.

I do think the writers tried to tell themselves that the audience didn't care about R&R anymore - possibly because, if MNL is a good representative, they themselves had decided that *they* did not. So this reaction caught them off guard, but relieved and excited. Unfortunately, while this will probably be a very good year, season nine would run it into the ground and then Joey would have to elope with Phoebe. So it may be a good thing this is the last year.

That would have to assume that we actually did. I know there were some of you that did...I havn't found one person yet (in person, not in the newsgroups)...but I heard its so. I always felt sorry for Chandler and the fact that he will be the one with the most stable relationship is heartning.

i agree with some of what you're saying, but not all of it. Seasons 1-3 (arguably the best) centered around R and R. Season 4, i didn't think was bad at all. There were some very good storylines (i.e. the changing appartments), and the R and R question was still around. Then season 5 hits--absolutely no r and r. Ratings go bye bye. Season 6 and 7 were slightly better than 5, and the r and r question was sort of prevalent. Season 8-r and r are once again the main storyline and ratings go up. Coincidence? I think not.

Is my memory bad? Season five was the last season that got them an Emmy nod for Best Sitcom. I always remembered it as being Friend's last really good season - and this is spite of what they did to Ross and the abandonment of R&R in favor of C&M, whom I like less. I really am trying to be objective, and for some reason I thought it was considered a given that Season Five went well, with good ratings. Six was the bad season that made me quit in disgust, and after that the ratings went into the comparative toilet.

No, I don't think it's a coincidence that R&R bouyed the recent ratings, but I really think it's the result of looking at the show from a new angle. This renaissance *is* partly the result of the time R&R spent on the back burner. They got time for the audience to start missing them, and now they return like this big gift we thought had been lost forever. It's just a shame they can't seem to give us these good high moments without taking past good ideas and overusing them until they lose their effectiveness, like M&C did.

No. They got one for the sixth season, too.

I agree that Aniston is a very underrated comic actress. While she is certainly also very attractive, it's unfortunate that her appearance has received such attention at the expense of her talents.

That was terrific. Other favorites (sorry, I'm not too familiar with episode titles):

"TOW Ross Finds Out" (I think) where she gets drunk and leaves him the message, then goes nuts when he's about to hear it.

The one where (as opposed to "TOW") she and Monica date the guys from ER, and she and Monica, pretending to be each other, attack each other's faults -- the moment when Monica tells Rachel's dad about Rachel sleeping with the guy on dad's bed and Rachel looks like she's going to faint (they were using this clip of Aniston in the credits for awhile) is priceless.

Also, the one where Rachel's boss handcuffs Chandler in her office -- the way Rachel tells Chandler she could be very generous about what she's seen or very s*t*i*n*g*y -- Aniston is extremely gifted with vocal nuances like this.

But as far as the CHARACTERS go, I still think Rachel has been awfully cruel to Ross in the past, so I won't call her awesome. :-)
