Monica Geller or Monica Bing?

In 8/21 The One With The Cooking Class. Monica introduces herself as Monica Geller. See this? Scene: The New School, Monica, carrying her dish, and Joey are confronting the food critic. Monica: Hi! Umm, I'm Monica Geller, I'm the chef at Alessandro's. The Food Critic: Still?

Shouldn't she be calling herself Monica Bing? After all she married and her last name changed due to marriage.

Ps: Remember in 723/724 She said Monica: (voice on answering machine) Hi! If you're calling before Saturday, you've reached Monica and Chandler. But if you're calling after Saturday, you've reached Mr. and Mrs. Bing! Please leave a message for the Bings!

She might be retaining a "professional" name in cooking circles, Monica Geller, when in fact, her legal name is now Monica Bing.

actually, now, women can keep there last name if they want. I don't know about NY State. In Ontario, it costs money, not sure how much but it cost money to change your last name. But most people do change there last name except celebs tend to keep their last name or use both last names.

I would buy this except for the fact that, in the episode with Rachel's baby shower, Monica again referred to herself as Monica Geller (when she called Rachel's mother to invite her to the shower). Now I suppose one could argue that Monica called herself that so that Rachel's mother would remember her, but, taking both of those indidents together, it sure seems to me that Monica is keeping her own last name. Lots of married women do that (or hyphenate) these days, so I don't see that it's any kind of a big deal. It's certainly not, as the original poster suggested, a sign of impending doom for the marriage.

They could use the Geller/Bing last name thing as a plot line for Chandler and Monica next season. She keeps saying Monica Geller, and Chandler gets all wiggy about it. He thinks she's going to dump him. She thinks he's over-reacting.

Or, a much easier solution, her name is Monica Geller Bing and she's tired of saying both names and that's the reason why she introduces herself as Monica Geller.
