If Courtney Is Pregnant.....

If CCA really is pregnant then it would be really critical for the producers and directors to find out if there will be a 9th season. If there is not going to be a ninth season then they don't have to make Monica pregnant on the show. Since they could probably go on filming the rest of this season with CCA not showing. But if they are going to have a ninth season then we should find out pretty soon if Monica is pregnant (to go along with CCA's pregnancy). This is why I believe that they are working hard at negotiations now. Because now more than ever they need to know the future of Friends. And we will know fairly soon I'm sure!!! :o)

The sole reason they're pushing for it now is because it's only just hit them that they stand a good chance of losing their main cash cow. And it is a big one.

Sorry about the tagline. I have a somewhat sideways sense of humour, and I assumed it was taken as read that it's intended as a joke. And as for the attitude... I call it like I see it, particularly when I'm overworked at uni and getting involved in society committees on top of it.

But that's the honest reason why NBC are pushing for a renewal now... money. That's the only language that anyone understands in Hollywood, or the media in general for that matter. Do you honestly think that the suits at NBC and Warner Bros. care about the career development of the actors? Because I can assure you, they don't. They see pound (oh alright, dollar) signs and their eyes light up. That's the way it works in the business... performers are seen by the suits as nothing but commodities to be sold to the highest bidder, milked for all they're worth and dropped when they're not making money anymore, which is why so many of them branch out into behind the scenes work. And if the suits need to pay out exhorbitant sums of money to keep their cash cows, they're going to do it - the money they get back will be far more than the actors will ever see, believe me. Money talks in Hollywood, to the detriment of a lot of good actors and movies.

Coincidence. They need to rush them now because they have to say whether it's coming back in May, and these things can honestly take forever. Courteney's rumoured pregnancy wouldn't affect the decision to renegotiate or the speed at which it's done - the only thing it's likely to affect, if anything, is whether Courteney comes back at all.

As for the rush - like I said, because it's just hit them that they stand a good chance of losing their major cash cow. Ratings means money, and if they lose ratings they can say goodbye to the money. Not to mention all the merchandising they'd lose out on...

Yup, that's something I'd forgotten - right now my main hangout is a place where I can get away with murder because my fellow posters get it, and because the moderators know it's pointless to even try and intervene with us by now. :)

Even if CCA being pregnant/not pregnant weren't an issue, the producers would still need to know whether or not there's going to be a 9th season very soon. If there isn't, they need to wrap up the series and write a series finale. If there is, they need to come up with a "hook" cliffhanger (and even if Courtney is pregnant and they introduce that this season, which they probably would, I don't think that would be the cliffhanger because it's exactly what they did with Rachel last year) and figure out the basic arc for the final season. But Courtney's condition, or lack thereof, does give the producers and the studio one more thing to work around under time constraints.

First of all, let's just get one thing straight. We do not know for a fact that Courteney is expecting. Don't believe anything until you hear it from her mouth. I cannot count how many times we have heard internet rumors that either Courteney or Jennifer is pregnant. Second, the current contract negotiations have nothing to do with her possible pregnancy. They are just trying to avoid the 11th hour deals that they struck in 2000 because it left NBC in a mess (they had to present their fall 2000 lineup to advertisers the last week in May and even resorted to airing a promo for the "Friends Finale" not specifying whether it was series or season.) And third, you can't make the assumption that just because CCA is pregnant that Monica will be pregnant. Numberous TV shows have had pregnant actresses with out having their characters pregnant, Frasier for instance. I think it would be funny to have Monica gaining weight and turning fat again during the last months of Courteney's pregnancy- it would only have to last 6-7 episodes. We have had enough pregnancy...Phoebe and then Rachel; those were both great, but a third would be way too much...it would also feel like Monica is stealing Rachel's thunder.
