Chandler's Dad

Okay, if the producers decide to bring in Chandler's dad this season, and it would seem likely since there might be a wedding for Chandler and Monica and it would seem weird if Chandler's dad wasn't invited or didn't show up. If he did, it would make for an interesting storyline involving Chandler, his dad and his mom. I can see the insanity building towards the wedding date.

But who are the best candidates to be the proud gay papa?

Here's my list. (No particular order)

1. Robin Williams (because he plays gay so well, even if he's not) 2. Nathan Lane (obvious choice, but maybe too young) 3. Harvey Fierstein 4. Bill Murray ( I know what you're going to say, but he's played gay before in Ed Wood, and was fabulous. And besides, I love Bill Murray and would love to see him on Friends) 5. George Hamilton (Why not? And besides, this guy needs to resurrect his career) 6. Kevin Kline (Again, maybe too young, but who knows.)

So far, those are the guys I can think of. Any other suggestions? or Comments?

I believe Nathan Lane would be the best choice. Since someone else mentioned him as a possibility, I cant imagine anyone else being Chandler's father or being in the stage show Viva Las Gaygas....

Personally I think Nathan Lane is way too obvious for a gay character, and too short, too. My choices would be Steve Martin or John Laroquette.

Why shouldn't an actor play a gay character, just because he has not played one before? There's always a first time. He's 50, so, technically, it would have been possible. But I always pictured Chandler's dad in the late 50's.

Hm. He's 53, so (probably except for this George Hamilton-person) he's actually the oldest, but you're right, I think, he's still too young.

About the other suggestions:

- Tony Curtis: Got the right age, but I think, MP doesn't look like him at all. On the other hand, why not.

- Steve Martin: From all the suggestion, he'd be my favourite. He's 55, plus he would have make a good couple with Morgan Fairchild

• John Laroquette: Hm, this name does not ring a bell with me...

My final decision: I guess the casting guys will find a suitable actor to play Chandler's dad. Why worry? It's not like, they would read the NGs and think: Oh my gosh, they're right! Sure, if they picked a more famous actor, that would be great, but if not, fine with me as well... I didn't know the actors who played Joey's, Rachel's or Phoebe's parents. In fact, the only actors to play parents, I knew were Elliott Gould and Morgan Fairchild...

The perfect star cameo for chandler's dad, acting as a counterpart to the flamboyant morgan fairchild (as chandler's mom), would be the soft-spoken Oliver Platt (from the movie "Simon Birch", and stars in the new tv series "Deadlilne"). He's self-effacing enough to pull it off, and still odd enough to have an off-screen personality that might be in a production like Viva Las Gaygas.
