Season 6 available on DVD (RC 2)

The season 6 box set will be available from Oct. 15th.

Please note: these DVDs are coded for Region 2.

Sure (my player is also modified) - I just wanted to point out the fact that it IS coded for Region 2. I think we already had the discussion on modded DVD players a couple of weeks ago.

Considering that I used to pay over 20 Euros for each UK VHS video tape 2 years ago, with each season consisting of 6 tapes... I REALLY don't mind the steep 1 Euro increase for a DVD box set - plus it saves some extra room in the shelf ;-)

And since season 6 probably won't air for another 2 years in Germany (after the show got cancelled on one channel two years ago in mid Season 4, another station picked it up and is airing it from scratch - on a weekly schedule.9, the last ep on saturday was TOW the prom video - just to give you an idea of HOW enthused we're about the DVD release over here :-)

Yes! Good point! Six seasons on DVD will occupy 10" of shelf space, while the same in tapes is almost four feet at 43" (26cm & 109cm).

I was lucky enough to find someone on ebay willing to pay slightly more for my VHS collection (S1-S4) than I coughed up for the DVD box sets 1-4... oh joy :-)

Ok, you have WAY to much time on your hands.

As I said, last Saturday they aired "TOW the prom video".

The other station cancelled the show somewhere mid Season 4, AFAIR (I wasn't watching anymore, since I had the VHS tapes back then - and I REALLY started to hate the german dubbed episodes.

Never mind - SEASON 6 ON DVD, BABY!

Sorry, by "recent episode" I didn't mean which episode was shown most recently, but which was the most recent episode that's ever been shown, that is the one with the highest number. English is not a language of precise communication, unlike German... :)

Ah yes, the most recent episode I've watched was 412 "TOW the Embryos", or as the title was given in Germany, "Alles ist relativ": Chandler und Joey streiten mit Monica und Rachel, wer wen besser kennt. Ein Quiz mit hohem Wetteinsatz soll die Frage kl�ren. Gleich beim ersten Versuch wird Leihmutter Phoebe schwanger - die Freude bei ihrem Bruder Frank und dessen Frau Alice ist riesig.

That's because German is your native language yet you speak English. Since English is my native language yet I speak German, it keeps me in practice while being entertained. In fact, I prefer Star Trek in German, especially the Klingons... :)

No, basically I hate it because they managed to kill 40% of the jokes in the german dub. The voices are not that bad, but there are tons of puns and jokes that go down the drain (remember when Joey wanted a "cool" stage name and Chandler suggested "Joseph Stalin"? Yeah, well, over here it was "Albert Einstein". Not even remotely funny.

And don't get me started on the "Monica talks to Julie on the phone" bit ("Did you just say 'Hi, Jew?'")... :-(

I think the subs are not so bad in Holland. Most of the time they translate it pretty much what it is in English. Sometimes they use Dutch expressions for certain things.

However, if you watch it on Belgian channel they do use their own 'Belgian Dutch' terms and/or expressions, and only they understand it. My bf is Dutch and he doesn't even get it. I'm just grateful all English language progs are aired in their original soundtrack. Glad I'm in Holland.

Do you mean linguistically (I actually would have to agree) or because of the fact that some germans think jokes relating to "being jewish" are totally inappropriate - even if they aren't the least anti-semitic (and I can't see how someone could interpret of this pun that way).
