Unfortunately for Joey's friends, his agent sells four of the tickets, so he has to choose whom to take. Rachel could go into labour, so Joey chooses Chandler, since he's been most supportive - even though Monica offers to wear a very slutty dress!
But when they arrive at the cinema, Chandler has to crouch down to avoid making the star look short; and worse than that, he lets Joey down by falling asleep during the film, then lying to him about it.
Later, Chandler apologises, but Joey rebuffs him, insisting on paying back every cent that Chandler spent on headshots, various classes, and three years of rent, utilities & food - except the final total is so high, that Joey accepts the apology instead!

As Rachel becomes increasingly ratty, she takes it out on kind Ross, who does not like it, and she becomes irritated by him. Then to make matters worse, the doctor advises that the best natural way to induce labour is to have sex!
Rachel is so uncomfortable, that she's prepared to try anything, but a shocked Ross is angered by the idea. So Monica, trying not to lose $100, offers Rachel the sexual services of Chandler!
Ross & Rachel try spicy food instead, and when that doesn't work, she yells at him to do it to her. However, the poor guy confuses sex with love, so refuses - even though Rachel says that she's like a ketchup bottle, just bang her on the bottom to get something out!
Eventually, Rachel so angers & insults Ross that he jumps on her, but after some clumsy fumbling about, and three unromantic kisses, her water suddenly breaks, so they stop just in the nick of time.
Touched by the thought of a new life, Ross & Rachel kiss once more, but nicely this time, then rush off to the hospital - just as Monica gives up the bet after losing $200 to Phoebe...

Meanwhile, Monica & Phoebe had a nothing of a story in the corner of the main plot, and yet CCA & LK managed to make it quite fun. But why couldn't we have a Monica & Rachel story?
Rachel's treatment, of her friends in general, and the father of her child in particular, was very bad - yet in contrast to last week, JA did manage to make her likable. In fact, the worse she behaved, the funnier she was. But despite perhaps their most intimate scenes in ages, Ross & Rachel did not have one ounce of chemistry.
With one week to go before the finale, the ratings for this episode were about the same as the previous one, which was also about Ross & Rachel. Though it was enjoyable, it seems to me that Kauffman & Crane have dropped the ball, totally misjudging what their little February story would do to the sentiments of many fans. If they are going to boost ratings for the finale, they must stop ignoring Joey & Rachel.

Yet the writer, Shana Goldberg-Meehan, also wrote the previous episode 612 "TOW the Joke", so she must have been around at the time.

During the season, when Rachel's bulge suddenly looked smaller again, the explanation was that she was dressed in black. Yet here, when she wore black, the trick did not seem to have worked, for she was still big. But then, when she arrived bulging out from under that red top, she was huuuuuge! But did it look real to you?
And shouldn't Rachel be leaning back rather more?
When Rachel is particularly bitchy, and snaps at Ross, he wryly wonders what he should tell people who ask him why they're not a couple. Who does that reflect badly on, Ross or Rachel?

Yes. I've noticed a number of times over the last episodies that Aniston really hasn't grasped how heavy a baby in progress really is. She someimtes hops around as though it's weightless -- gets up out of couches without any trouble, sits down without any trouble, etc. I guess when the focus of the action isn't on her, they want to keep the pace up. But it's absurd.
Because the center of mass for dead weight added to the fake stomach would be harmful to a person's spine. A fetus is not dead weight and the positioning is internal so the hips support the strain instead of the pull being directly on the lower spine.
Doesn't that mean those weighted pads they get husbands to wear, to appreciate what their pregnant wives are going through, are in fact a complete con?
Anyway, the props department will just have to arrange the weight differently. You make a belt that goes around the hips with small but dense weights hanging off the hip bones, balanced against a moderately heavy prosthetic bulge, such that the combination results in the correct total weight properly distributed.

It has to happen. I'm surpised given all the "Chandler is gay" storylines in the past that thought didn't even come up in passing in conversation when deciding who would go. That said, Chandler was clearly the right choice.
I have a feeling this is one of those situations one can't understand, or judge, unless you have been in it yourself. Even then it is tough to tell another how she should feel or act.
It looked very fake to me. The size was ok, but the look of her skin was not right. I can really only compare it to my wife, but in comparison Rachel's belly looked like Silly Putty to me. (Do you have Silly Putty in the UK?)
I think it reflects badly on both.
My wife and I were told the same sort of things when her due dates were approaching. For what it is worth, we had Meixcan food for dinner the night before our first son was born (one day late), and coincidentally the night before our second son was born (three days early).

Well, the point is that Monica was going on about wearing a very slutty dress, and that's what fired my imagination - but curiously not yours, despite what many have predicted.
I don't think it was meant to be a slur against your sister; the same effect could have been reached if somebody else had said
"Yeah, but I'll bet the farm she doesn't ask you to have sex with her afterwards." It's not nearly so much a matter of your family as it is a question of whether or not Rachel is acting as if she were Ross' sister.
I know, but remember; you were the one who set up the analogy. You saw no sexual tension in the kiss, so you said, "I kiss my sister like that." Somebody else noted that Rachel then asked Ross to have sex with her, and pointed out that your sister certainly would not do that with you.
The conversation, broken down to its most elemental parts, is this:

Maybe because it was realisitic. Not all women get that bitchy, but a lot do. Being 9 months pregnant is exhausting and painful and frustrating. If it's your first, you're also anxious and impatient. Plus there are tons of hormones flying around, your body is retaining water until everything feels like it's going to explode, and it's HOT! I'd be bitchy too. In fact, I was just 8 months ago.
Chances are he meant the observed Memorial Day, which would be May 27th. It's a big day for movie openings.
We know Chandler paid for his head shots, his rent, his food, etc. Some of that may not have been directly for his career, but where would he have been without Chandler's help?

A due date is an approximation. A woman is considered full-term anywhere between 38 and 42 weeks, and most doctors do not consider her overdue until after 42 weeks. I'm sure Rachel's doctor gave her that info at the beginning, but most women focus on the due date. The anticipation, the anxiety, it all becomes focused on that one day, and I can imagine it's not pleasant for that day to come and go without a baby. (Both of my kids were a week early)
Maybe she only goes when she knows that someone is there to help? Or she really doesn't need help, but prefers it to the struggle of standing unassisted.
I'd have to look again. It depends on whether or not she had stretch-marks.
Yes, and it really should be harder to move around. At the end of my 2 pregnancies, I could hardly move, and my feet were so swollen that I had to keep them elevated all the time.
I got annoyed at Ross, only because Rachel has an excuse. I know a lot of people say she's that bitchy all the time, but I really identified with her during her pregnancy, especially at the end. (I'll tell you another reason why when I get to your next review)
My doctor told me that there is no proof that any of that stuff works, but that some people swear by it. There is also some scientific basis for why some of the methods should work. Sex is the best though, because the semen contains prostaglandins which help thin the cervix. And orgasm tightens the uterus (which helps thin and open the cervix) and will cause some women to have contractions that may or may not become regular.
Did you know that only a very small percentage of labors start with the water breaking?

Oh, we had a big debate on the concept of the due date also. IIRC, the consensus was that the variation was allowed since in most cases the actual date of conception was not known, and had to be inferred from the woman's interrupted cycle. But here that date is known.

Just kidding of course, but I wonder... The Rachel who accompanied Joey to the Soapie awards last year would most likely have killed to get invited to a real "Hollywood" premiere. Even though I understand that it was impossible for her to go to this premiere, I still think the friends (and Ross in particular) would have prevented a lot of vicious mood-swings if she had gone together with Joey. Not to mention the fact that he would have been able to handle her mood-swings.
Having said that, I'm glad that Joey's movie popped up again. Also, it was intriguing to hear that it was already generating Oscar-buzz. Could this be a sign as to where Joey is going next year? I guess we can't rule out anything now that we've seen that his movie from the S7 finale showed up again. And wouldn't it be a nice way to end the show if Joey got an Oscar-nod and headed off to Hollywood in the season 9 finale? :)
Ross was the only one who truly seemed to suffer when her hormones kicked in. The others could walk away, but he was stuck with her.. However, I'm a bit surprised (and happy) by the fact that Monica wasn't hurt by Rachel's remarks about Monica's potpourri.
On a side note, I thought it was funny how she threatened Chandler by saying that she would sit on him if he didn't stop teasing her. Looks like Rachel has picked up a few tips from good old Fat Monica. From 607 TOW Phoebe Runs: Ross: Look Chandler, Monica is really weird about this kind stuff all right. Believe me, I lived with her for 16 years. She is going to freak out. Oh my God, she's going to sit on you. ;)

Chandler really let Joey down in this scene, but I don't think it was that serious of a betrayal. If Chandler was really exhausted (perhaps he's been having sleepless nights after his disastrous interview last week?) I can see where he's coming from. And he didn't do it on purpose.
On a side note, it was interesting to see how similar this scene was to Ross falling asleep during Rachel's fashion lecture in 314 TOW Phoebe's Husband. Even though I think it's highly doubtful that Joey and Chandler will "break up" in the finale, it might be a sign that they've drifted apart over the last couple of years.
One can only wonder how much Joey owes Chandler by now. On the other hand, it can't be much more than it was in 618 TOW Ross Dates A Student since Joey has had good jobs ever since then. To go back to my comparison with 314, I don't know what's funniest; Ross freaking out over his Jurassic Parka or Joey talking in a Jamaican accent...

After all, it may be the last time they have the opportunity to have a Monica-Rachel story about the pregnancy, and they blew it once again. Having said that, it was evident that this story was merely a supporting one for Monica and Phoebe, two characters that have been virtually ignored this year.
Perhaps Ross should have dated Katie after all.. However, I do understand Rachel's frustration. She did seem terribly uncomfortable, and it must be pretty awful to just walk around waiting for your water to break. That's why she came off as a better person here than in 821 TOW the Cooking Class, where she was incredibly unreasonable.
On a side note, using sex as a way to induce labour seems to be a trend on sitcoms. Didn't Jamie and Paul do the exact same thing when she was pregnant on Mad About You?

All jokes aside, Ross really doesn't know how to handle pregnant Rachel. You'd think that he would be more experienced, what with Carol and all, but I guess the fact that Rachel is the first pregnant woman he's actually living with is catching up with him. This scene was really funny, and unlike what the promos made it out to be, hardly romantic at all. Even though Rachel was constantly mean to him, it was still funny, so for once the mean... what do you call her... Princess Bitch, was funny even though she was "pure evil."
This has to be the most awkward "sex"-scene I've ever seen. Rachel rolling around with that huge stomach looked more like a hippity-hop rolling around on a couch.. And since they didn't need to actually have sex to induce labour, it looks like a little pressure on the belly would be enough..
Absolutely. This was a good kiss, but not a patch on the best RnR-kiss ever, namely the one in the end of 207 TOW Ross Finds Out. Unfortunately, this kiss was in every promo for both May sweeps and 822, so I had already seen it dozens of times before it finally happened. This obviously ruined the surprise and the impact of the kiss, so you probably thought it was better than I did.
I thought the Chandler and Joey story was really good in the beginning, but it did fall a little flat in the end. The scene where Joey told Monica and Phoebe about what Chandler had done for him in the past was very sweet, and I immediately thought it would be an excellent "best buds" story. And it's nice to see when the guys get all emotional and the women tease them about it. :) But the end scene where Joey forgave Chandler could have been improved. I'm not quite sure what could have been improved, since I laughed out loud at Joey's accent. As for Monica and Phoebe, I totally agree with you. I just think it's really sad that two really talented actresses are stuck with nothing to do several weeks in a row.
Just the image of Rachel trying to pick up her fork had me in stitches. And I guess that you see that I agree with you about Ross and Rachel. I thought they were pretty good together, though, but they don't strike me as a couple in love. In fact, the way they acted around each other in this episode made it pretty clear that these two do not have feelings for each other.
Exactly. I don't think anyone at neither NBC, BKC nor Warner Bros realised what kind of an impact Joey's love for Rachel would have on the show and its viewers. People (apart from the most intense RnR-fans) will not accept this storyline as a mere stepping stone for Ross and Rachel to get back together as they leave Joey in the dust. The required growth in the characters hasn't happened yet, and with Rachel treating Ross as a slave, there are very few similarities to the na�ve Rachel who fell head over heels in love with him in season 2. There is something missing, and that is very obvious at this point. Using Ross and Rachel as a way to get viewers for sweeps may have worked countless times in the past, but people want more than that now, and if BKC want to reach the incredible heights of the ratings in January and February, they need to bring back Joey into the mix.
I know! It was great to hear about the movie again. However, I'm still not quite onboard with you when it comes to the timeline. While your timeline fits with season 9, the wedding invitation on E-bay said otherwise. Therefore, I'll reserve judgement for now. :)

124 TOW Rachel Finds Out spans more than a week. The scenes with Monica and Rachel jump from one week to the next, but there is a scene with Chandler and Joey in between, so it isn't the same kind of time lapse. I cannot remember another big time lapse off the top of my head.
And did you notice the rather meaningful look on his face when she thanked her friends for being there for her throughout her pregnancy? He looked kind of wistful IMO.
She also had a good joke about Ross the students in Ross' class. Monica seems to be genuinely happy these days, doesn't she?

I'm under the impression that it's more likely that those kinds of rumours will pop up if you start hanging out with a person of the same sex in private. Very few homosexuals who are still in the closet or afraid of their reputation actually dare to go out with their boyfriends in public. One can only look at how people reacted when Sir Ian McKellen showed up with his boyfriend at this year's Academy Awards. Lots of people in the USA were really surprised by that since he showed up with a female colleague (Vanessa Redgrave) the last time he was nominated (for "Gods & Monsters"). Joey and Chandler hung out together in a very public place, so no, I doubt anyone thought that they were gay.

Well, from what I've seen of the American health system, they can give you pills for practically anything. Even worse, they think a pill can make it all better in the most bizarre cases. Therefore, I'm surprised Rachel didn't get a ton of medications right away.
Oh, you betcha. People were going nuts, and I was spoiled pretty much right away. It was really annoying, but then again, I would have seen one of the numerous NBC-promos at some point, so it was a lost cause from the start.
The kisses on the couch were funny, but not romantic. The last kiss was, as I said earlier, ruined by the promos, so even though it was romantic, it lost parts of the effect it could have had on the audience.

I'd say that this episode was okay, but not good. There was an amazing hype for this episode, so perhaps that's why I felt slightly disappointed after I had seen it. There is something weird about the show these days that makes it seem like some of the spark is missing. Also, the Ross & Rachel story once again felt forced. It's fine that they want them to get together in time for the birth of their daughter, but when you think about the fact that Ross and Rachel have repeated over and over again that they don't want to be together, plus the fact that it's only a couple of months ago that Joey suddenly entered the "Race for Rachel" and became incredibly popular. And can you blame him? Rachel's character was lovely together with Joey, and now she's virtually attacking the father of her baby.. Yeah, it's funny, but I don't buy the change in Rachel's character. And when are the other people going to get some really good and juicy stories?
I'm so grateful that I get to see the episodes before I watch the spoilers, so that my first impressions are formed in context. :)

Joey was certainly the funnier, but the whole Jurassic Parka incident is better since it was the only time that the show has taken a really positive stance on palaeontology, with their little bone angle.

Such tactics would fail at a casino, since you will be wiped out by a run against you - but here Rachel was bound to have the baby sooner or later. I like to think that Monica stopped when she did to save Phoebe from the trap she'd fallen into, as well as proving once again that she is less competitive than people accuse of being.

The story jumped the shark the moment Chandler had to crouch down. The guys should've had a good time at the premiere, and then done something silly that them into trouble or whatever - something that was the Best Buds of old, not one guy against the other.

With the guaranteed ratings winner of a Ross & Rachel romance to follow, the show's score would go on to unprecedented heights. Then the late March & April returns rocked them back on their heels, and too much film was already in the can.

The reason for that is the prop was made when the wedding was to be in May, with a birth in the February Sweeps. Then somewhere along the line, BKC changed their minds about the timing, and moved everything back a few months, despite the date given in the bridal store scene. What then sealed it, were several timing references they gave out in conjunction with episodes set at Halloween & Thanksgiving, after which there was no turning back, and they hit it on the nose with Memorial Day 2002. Best thing to do for you to do now sweetie is leave this topic for 823, as then I shall include the full timeline with my review.

In fact Claire was nearer the mark when (erroneously thinking that I'd seen 822) she complained about the couple's lack of tenderness, with Rachel screaming at Ross to have sex with her as if she were hollering at a slave. Fortunately, her inadvertent spoiler slipped straight past me: because Rachel has been treating Ross like a dildo that mows the lawn for almost a couple of years now; which is why it's so great to see how lovely Karen is when she's with Joey.

I liked that decision. I cheered when Joey announced his choice. Chandler deserved to go from day one.

I have repeatedly told you, but you don't seem to be listening, that we don't know what is happening behind the scenes. All we do have are the ratings figures, which go down when there is a RnR story, and up when there is a JnR story, or one where Ross dates Mona/Katie. This is why 818 and 820, both heavily promoted as RnR episodes, had fewer viewers than the clip show 819, yet all three were against Survivor.
In any case, we'll soon know if I'm right or not, by whether there is any sign of Jnr interaction in the finale (but please don't say anything about that here).

If I didn't already watch every episode, I'd be more likely to watch a R&R episode, and less likely to watch a J&R one.
IMO, the only negative reaction to a R&R episode is cynicism - fans have been screwed by the producers so many times, they've stopped even caring. If they were convinced it was a real & permanent reconciliation, I believe they'd come flocking back!

Huge numbers of promos, so pervasive that if you joined them end-to-end, they would total far longer than the episode itself. The promo for this episode was particularly misleading, making it look that a wonderful RnR romance had been rekindled, yet the ratings stayed fairly flat.
Check the rest of the scene against your DVD, Andr�. Did Rachel say that she kissed Ross? Or that the kiss was not as bad as needing tissues? And rather more significantly, did Ross & Rachel have a baby on her way? :)

Therefore, I think it's very weird indeed if Lisa Kudrow gets an Emmy-nod this year. Even though she's practically a lock every year, she has had so few opportunities to shine this year. This year, on the other hand, she has been stuck with stupid storylines that have meant nothing. No, this scenario applies to men people believe are actually gay. Even though Joey has a big gay fan base, I doubt that anyone actually thinks he's gay. If his fans were convinced he was gay, it would be very stupid to show up at a big premiere with a woman whom he treated as a sister.
People already knew Sir Ian McKellen was gay when he went to the Oscars, but I guess he didn't want to cause a lot of controversy by showing up with his boyfriend. It seems to me that many of them were just happy to see the two of them together in a story that involved Rachel's pregnancy. While I can see that that would make them happy when they first heard about it and saw the incredible promo that left nothing to the imagination, so to speak, I think I would have been very disappointed if I had been one of them.

Well, take a look at Monica, Chandler, Joey, Ross and Phoebe's clothes in the CP scenes in 819 and in the very beginning of this episode. Coincidence? I don't think so...

Okay, here's my opinion on Ross and Rachel:
I'm *not* rooting for them, and I don't really care who they end up with. If they end up with each other; fine, but that's not why I'm watching the show. I stopped rooting for them a while ago; and after season 7, I started thinking that maybe they would never get back together, but then we found out that the father of Rachel's baby was Ross, and that pretty much sealed the deal as far as I'm concerned. Yes, there was a huge story with Joey this season, but I don't think Rachel will end up with him. You see, I'm still sure that Ross & Rachel will eventually get back together again, even though I'm not by any means a RnR-fan. I would be delighted if BKC manage to surprise me and start something completely unexpected for these two, but given that these two have been back and forth since 1994, I don't really see that happening.

JA stayed at her high level, LK slumped a bit more, and MLB had the nice rise you'd expect, though he still hasn't regained his S6 peak.
Well, not quite. Ross started dating Carol in November 1988, but it was September 1993 when he thought he'd finally figured out why they'd been having so much trouble lately, so assume that sexual dysfunction set in about a month before. That gives them 4� years (508/306).
Ross fell for Julie in May 1995, and it was all over by November, so that was only 6 months. Ross & Rachel broke up on their anniversary, but they'd had big problems since she quit her job at Christmas, so they had more like 9 months. Ross once said he'd known & loved Emily for 72 days, but that makes nonsense of Phoebe's pregnancy - since his arithmetic skills are not the best, we shall ignore that and blithely assume they met in March 1998, and it was all over bar the shouting by September, another 6 months (124/208/315/310/502/205/414/502).
Meanwhile, Chandler & Monica have been happily together for 3� years as a couple (although they have been happy with each other for much longer). That's a year less than Ross & Carol, but that relationship was before the show started, which IMHO is easier time to do.
However, in allowing pre-101 relationships, we should also be counting Joey & Angela, who were together for 3 years, and parted on good terms if their friendly reunion in 105 is anything to go by. And also in that episode, Chandler broke up with Janice (or more accurately Phoebe did it for him). We have no idea how long they were a couple, but Janice looked awfully settled (she bought him socks) so let's call it a year.
Now, you're not gonna like this, but there is one other relationship that lasted at least 6 months, and that was Phoebe & Jake. Thanks to the huge gap in the episodes while Monica's wedding plans fell apart after losing the wedding dress *and* the museum, Phoebe must have met Jake in March 2001, who were last seen together at the end of August; but since they were still happy, I'm assuming that they broke up the next month (718/722). That gives us the following league tables...

Well, I'm not too sure either. I know the idea is that "Mr." does not convey a marital status, whereas "Miss" and "Mrs." do. Thus "Ms." was invented to give adult women the same privacy. Now, in Western culture, newborn girls are never married, so "Ms.Green" seems inappropriate. In the same way, Ben is not "Mr.Geller" but "Master Geller". What I don't know is at what age we switch - puberty (whenever that happens to take place), the age of sexual consent, or legal adulthood (UK 18, USA 21).

The episode aired on 11th March 1999, but with nothing better to go on, I'm inclined to set it in early April, as late S5 episodes slide forwards into the 1999 magic time. Meanwhile, the couple got together in the middle of 1998 magic time, which is late July, so Chandler described a relationship lasting for 8-9 months.

It *was* awkward and it *didn't* really imply anything sexual, but even so Ross was trying to get the baby out of her. All I am saying is that what we actually saw, shorn of its limited emotional content as we know it to be, is the furthest that the show has dared go, depictionwise.
Yeah, try to imagine that when "Friends" began many years ago, it was all about three teenagers at Lincoln High School - Rachel Granger, her best friend Monica Weasley, her big brother Ross Weasley - and his new friend from another school, Chandler Potter...
Now, and this is harder to imagine, pretend that after five years, the two main romantic characters, that most of the fans are rooting for to get together, who seem so right for each other, are Chandler & Rachel.
However, there has developed a hard core of rebellious fans, who are insisting that THIS SHOULD NOT BE. Since the other two main characters are brother & sister, nothing can happen for them. Instead, what must be done is that the ideal couple of Chandler & Rachel are broken up, so that Chandler & Monica, and Ross & Rachel, can get together.
Of course, what the arguing fans can not anticipate, is that in a few more years, the writers plan to create two *new* characters to totally restabilise this awkward situation - the mysterious Joey & Phoebe!

Well, the significant difference between American & British sitcoms is that they have a writing team, while we have the 'auteur' system - one or maybe two people spending a year to write a season of about seven episodes. This means that our sitcoms go more for quality rather than quantity - "Friends" is exceptional for the quality of writing that they do manage to achieve.

I saw two promos one with this kiss and the one at the door. The promos made the clumsy kiss on the couch look so passionate, that when I saw the scene, I was pretty impressed with the editors.
"Touched by the thought of a new life", that's what that kiss was meant to be. It was brought out by joy of the impending birth of their child, nothing more. I mean, Carol kissed Ross when she was pregnant with Ben (TOW Candy Hearts). Ross was still in love with Carol and Carol also loved him but there is no romantic future for them despite having a baby together. Rachel is not a lesbian but she and Ross have no more scope for a future relationship than Carol and Ross did. They share a lot of history and love each other but romance? We haven't seen that in ages. If R&R fans consider her yelling at him like a sex slave as romantic...
It's really sad that they blew their chance to do a good Chandler and Joey story. The little scene they share in TOW Stripper was far more better than this entire story.
I couldn't agree more. Rachel was likable in this episode despite her attitude. In fact her scenes with Ross were very funny.

There is a certain wedding invitation that was on Ebay that claims the wedding date as May 19th. However, I am suspicious about its authenticity. 42 weeks is normal. Labors are induced for women who don't show any sign of giving birth by then. I found that lots of women identified with the story in this episode. I had the exact opposite problem. My son was two weeks early, totally blowing my Millenium Baby plans. :(

Many R&R fans were deceived by the promos into thinking that something monumental happens with their couple in this episode. Many people think that the kiss at the door was nice. Only in comparison with the silly kiss on the couch IMO.

822 "TOW Rachel is Late"
It's a week before Joey's WW1 movie "Over There" is released, so he invites all his friends to the world premiere - except that Rachel's baby is now due, so she won't be able to go.
Yet a week later, Rachel is still pregnant, only more so, and while she takes her discomfort out on poor Ross, her friends become ever wearier of her understandably bad-tempered demeanour.
Unfortunately for Joey's friends, his agent sells four of the tickets, so he has to choose whom to take. Rachel could go into labour, so Joey chooses Chandler, since he's been most supportive - even though Monica offers to wear a very slutty dress!
But when they arrive at the cinema, Chandler has to crouch down to avoid making the star look short; and worse than that, he lets Joey down by falling asleep during the film, then lying to him about it.
Later, Chandler apologises, but Joey rebuffs him, insisting on paying back every cent that Chandler spent on headshots, various classes, and three years of rent, utilities & food - except the final total is so high, that Joey accepts the apology instead!

Meanwhile, Monica can't believe the baby will hang on much longer, so she bets Phoebe $50 that Rachel will soon give birth. However, by the next day Rachel looks bigger than ever, so rather than accept defeat, Monica persuades Pheebs to go double or quits.
As Rachel becomes increasingly ratty, she takes it out on kind Ross, who does not like it, and she becomes irritated by him. Then to make matters worse, the doctor advises that the best natural way to induce labour is to have sex!
Rachel is so uncomfortable, that she's prepared to try anything, but a shocked Ross is angered by the idea. So Monica, trying not to lose $100, offers Rachel the sexual services of Chandler!
Ross & Rachel try spicy food instead, and when that doesn't work, she yells at him to do it to her. However, the poor guy confuses sex with love, so refuses - even though Rachel says that she's like a ketchup bottle, just bang her on the bottom to get something out!
Eventually, Rachel so angers & insults Ross that he jumps on her, but after some clumsy fumbling about, and three unromantic kisses, her water suddenly breaks, so they stop just in the nick of time.
Touched by the thought of a new life, Ross & Rachel kiss once more, but nicely this time, then rush off to the hospital - just as Monica gives up the bet after losing $200 to Phoebe...

We've waited over two years for a proper Chandler & Joey story, but I'm afraid that it was rather lacklustre. MP & MLB played it okay, but it just wasn't entertaining. Meanwhile, Monica & Phoebe had a nothing of a story in the corner of the main plot, and yet CCA & LK managed to make it quite fun. But why couldn't we have a Monica & Rachel story?
Rachel's treatment, of her friends in general, and the father of her child in particular, was very bad - yet in contrast to last week, JA did manage to make her likable. In fact, the worse she behaved, the funnier she was. But despite perhaps their most intimate scenes in ages, Ross & Rachel did not have one ounce of chemistry.
With one week to go before the finale, the ratings for this episode were about the same as the previous one, which was also about Ross & Rachel. Though it was enjoyable, it seems to me that Kauffman & Crane have dropped the ball, totally misjudging what their little February story would do to the sentiments of many fans. If they are going to boost ratings for the finale, they must stop ignoring Joey & Rachel.

Wasn't that nice continuity to recall Joey's movie from the Season 7 finale? He said then that the premiere would be on Memorial Day 2002, which will be on May 31st; neatly fitting the established timeline for a conception 3 weeks before Chandler & Monica's wedding on September 15th - which is why they weren't celebrating their first anniversary.
So much for the cynics who predicted that Joey's movie would be quietly forgotten about. On the other hand, well done those who predicted that it would not be his big break - but what would've happened if the S9 contract negotiations had fallen through?
A time-lapse in a teaser? Is this some sort of record? Has any teaser before ever lasted as long as an hour, let alone a whole week?
Joey may be talking to Rachel once more, but he's still avoiding her, isn't he? In the past there is no way that he would have gone to a fancy showbiz occasion without her, heavily pregnant or not.
Or is she now too shy to face the glare of the flashbulbs?
Wow, wasn't Monica in a great mood this week? Is that because she has a silver star? Not only does she offer to wear a slutty dress to please Joey, she offers Chandler's services to please Rachel!
But why oh why did Joey have to choose Chandler? I wanted to see Monica wearing a sluttish sequin dress, cut down to 'here'...
Won't turning up with a guy start "Joey Tribbiani is gay" rumours in the tabloid press? Or would it please his huge gay fanbase?
What dreadfully inconsistent writing! All of a sudden, Joey cannot add together $500 & 500, but in 613 "TOW Rachel's Sister" he totalled $4.50+$2.75+$4.25+$1.25 in less than 3 seconds. Yet the writer, Shana Goldberg-Meehan, also wrote the previous episode 612 "TOW the Joke", so she must have been around at the time.
Or could it be that Joey pretends to be dumb, to get out of paying money back to Chandler, like not splitting a $80 phone bill?
And how can Joey owe all that much anyway? In 618 "TOW Ross Dates a Student" the debt was no more than $3500, and he has had good jobs since then. Or did he have to borrow from Chandler to keep going, after splurging $20000 on a 22-foot gentleman's daysailer?
Did you know that Joey's supposedly poor Confederate/Jamaican accent was actually quite an accurate Barbadian accent?
Rachel's baby may be a week overdue, but isn't she being overly fractious? My mother carried me for an extra month, insisting on a natural childbirth - has anyone lasted longer?
Okay, so maybe Rachel has cause, but does she still have to be so totally dismissive of Ross as a scientist?
When Rachel was a bit short with Phoebe, and making her fetch stuff, did you realise that she was quite similar to a very pregnant Phoebe in 423 "TOW Ross's Wedding (part 1)"?
Did you notice the continuity error with the bottled water? As Phoebe took the cap off and started to drink, she joked about calling Zurich, and then we saw her do the same action again.
It's all very well for Phoebe to make the mistake of saying no-one's there, but how does Rachel get off the loo when there really isn't?
During the season, when Rachel's bulge suddenly looked smaller again, the explanation was that she was dressed in black. Yet here, when she wore black, the trick did not seem to have worked, for she was still big. But then, when she arrived bulging out from under that red top, she was huuuuuge! But did it look real to you?
And shouldn't Rachel be leaning back rather more?
Why wasn't Jennifer Aniston weighted down properly (not all as one big heavy bulge, but with most of the mass slung off her hips)?
When Rachel is particularly bitchy, and snaps at Ross, he wryly wonders what he should tell people who ask him why they're not a couple. Who does that reflect badly on, Ross or Rachel?
Or are we being too harsh on Rachel - 9 months pregnant, exhausted, frustrated, and in pain? It's her first baby, so she's also anxious & impatient. Then her body is flooded with hormones, it's retaining water, and it feels like it will explode. Plus the weather is hot?

The first three were one-sided, desperate & angry; and while the last kiss was friendly, there was nothing sexual about it. Even my sister kisses me like that. Can they in any sense bear comparison with the promo showing the couple's first romantic kiss outside Central Perk in the rain, in the wonderful 207 "TOW Ross Finds Out"?
Some commentators say that the fourth kiss was anything but sisterly, but any sign of tongues being employed was in the highly misleading promos on NBC, the kiss in the episode itself was not like that.

According to a filming report by TrueLove28, not much material was cut out for the aired version. One small omission was Monica losing the second bet. We see the gang at Central Perk, where Monica pays Phoebe $100, Rachel $50, and Ross just $2!
Also, the first time that Joey walked out of the cinema, they filmed Chandler warning that he doesn't want to be in the limo by himself, so Joey goes up to a girl, puts his arm around her, and they depart. Was this variation cut out because of BKC's problem with lowish ratings?

An easy answer for this. Chandler could have been saying "You do owe me so much, 3 thousand, four hundred for furniture, over 10 thousand in rent, and I've lost track of how much for food."
This is very strange. Some people have reacted like you, thinking that the kiss was so passionate that there must be something wrong with me; yet others saw that the kiss was merely nice but no more than that, and certainly nothing to write home about.

..as you can see, by day 11 the bet hits $51,200 so total losses would increase to $102,350 if Rachel is still pregnant - while if the baby is born then Monica gains $51,200 but having lost $51,150 she's up by only 50 bucks. After some days, if Phoebe baulks, Monica is out by a fortune.

She was a charming & lovely woman whom Ross was dating (yes, there have been three Kristens on the show and Ross "You've-always-been-in-love-with-Rachel" Geller has dated *all* of them); but while they were at a restaurant, Carol came in, and Ross was still so in love with her that he made her join them. Then he had such a lovely time chatting up his ex-wife that he didn't notice Kristen leaving, so he & Carol shared a passionate (non-sisterly) kiss.

Kristen Riggs lived in Ross's building, and once lent him an egg. We don't know much else about her, because Ross wasn't listening, for he was transfixed with love for his pregnant ex-wife.
