But have you seen the breakdown of the movie ratings at imdb? The number of guys who vote as opposed to females is so high. Only ten percent of the votes belong females. So are we to assume only ten that many women go to see any movie? No. The only people who vote at Nbc.com would be those fans who visit their site on Fridays to vote. So far, I've missed all their polls and I'm online quite a lot. I really don't consider online voting results as anything to go by. I would say this if J&R won the poll by 90%. :)

Well, I'm not a fan of the couple, so my comments won't be completely objective, but you're right that they have been a *huge* part of the cliffhangers and the "important" episodes. I don't agree with you about them being more of a couple than Chandler and Monica, though. C&M have been together for almost four years now, they live together, and they're married. While you can say that Ross and Rachel live together with a baby on the way (and they have been married); that still doesn't count as a real "couple" in my book. Their story is still too complicated to fit in the "two people in a loving, committed relationship" category.

I was actually taking an abstract definition of couple. Literally r/r are not a couple at least not now. m/c have not really been tested as a couple but they are definitely one. r/r have had plenty of passion and tension and in a way are an intriguing pair or complicated as you put it. It would be fun to see how r/r reconcile the differences between them in the final season not to mention the possiblilities the writers have with this pair.

His name also came up in 515 TOW The Girl Who Hits Joey and 522 TOW Joey's Big Break. The return of Janice in 707 TOW Ross's Library Book was hardly a threat to Monica. If they want to create more problems in their relationship, I hope they make Monica jealous. Otherwise, the writers will be sending the message that Chandler should count himself lucky since "Monica is way out of his league."

If they opt for the RnR reunion, I hope they do it in a believable fashion where the baby is not being used as an excuse for them to get back together.

This season's finale may easily clear all of those except the Super Bowl, and I think the odds are very good for a J&R cliffhanger/themed episode, so out goes that theory. ;)

I don't know. You said the same thing about 816 breaking ratings records. And despite the suspense and promotions 816 turned out to be one of worst eppies ever, judging from the incidence of people who were extremely disappointed. I know I was one of them.

Personally I'll like to see something unexpected hopefully involving c/m. There are plenty of c/m fans too who would like that as it'll be the last opportunity to see the sextet together. It would add some variety and depth in the final season. I would hate it see it degenerate into a r/r show or r/r/j or r/j in your case. A well written finale will assure the ratings next season.

Plus the climax or suspense if that applies should invoke positive sentiments. Like Rachel's pregnancy for instance. Not dark or negative sentiments. After all its a sitcom.

I honestly don't know if I ever said 816 would be breaking ratings record. If I did, then I stand corrected. A major reason why I think this episode would break the record is because it is not airing against Survivor, unlike 816. That, and season finales have always been highly rated, but now with storylines on the table it should be even bigger.

And speaking as a J&R fan, I too was disappointed with 816. The big scene seemed totally inconsistent with the buildup to it. And the sad part was the episode was written by a couple of the most experienced writers on the staff.

I don't think the show "degenerates" by having two people be the focal point for a brief amount of time. Everyone else has had their moment in the sun, I think Joey having a cliffhanger would be a pretty fresh idea.

Positive?

1st season cliffhanger: Ross walks off the plane kissing Julie, as Rachel is standing there, waiting with flowers, to tell him about her feelings.

3rd season cliffhanger: Ross has to decide which woman to dump

4th season cliffhanger: Ross ruins his wedding by saying Rachel

7th season cliffhanger: Rachel gets in trouble as a single woman

I don't really call these he-larry-ous moments if you ask me... ;)

Too much hype went into the trailers actually. I didn't notice any inconsistency; the rejection had hurt and Rachel tried to restore the rriendship in 817 resulting in closure. Anyway Joey's crush was planned out over six eppies (812 /817) by BKC and I think they knew how they wanted it to end from the onset.

Sure. So long as its Joey and a new storyline why not.

Positive as in feel good not necessarily hilarious. None of the endings listed, pitted one friend against the other. Julie, Bonnie & Emily were all secondary characters. Raachel's pregnancy of course was the most talked about and anticipated as 801 made the top ten ratings list.

I don't want to belabor this point, because it's just a matter of opinion, but I don't think you can find one person in the media that thought 817 was "closure" for this storyline. If people seriously bought that as closure, they wouldn't be turning around the next week with these polls saying as many people want Joey to be with Rachel as people that want Ross and Rachel back together.

I'm pretty darn sure 817 wasn't the end. What's the point of the storyline? Joey suffers with his feelings while he pushes Rachel towards Ross, and then he gets rejected and suffers some more? Not really a feel good storyline if you ask me. This storyline will have a happy ending to it, and I'm almost positive at some point it will be with Rachel.

The new storyline being a relationship with Rachel. It would be different from the crush storyline.

Those cliffhangers still are not really feel good, though. They are just designed to make you anticipate the resolution next season. It doesn't have to be positive for that to happen.
