why won't they add a new cast member??

we've pretty much come to the conclusion that friends will not introduce another permanent character. But my question is.......why?? They've done it on MANY other shows. Maybe not another "Friend," but certainly a friend's girl/boyfriend or spouse. The following shows added new *main* characters: Full House, Cheers, step by step, and many many more.

I think alot of people view adding new characters as a sing of trouble with the show. I wouldn't object if they added a character that acted as a love interest or new neighbor or something, or they could give Gunther something to do.......

yes that would work as Gunther has so much potential, friends is getting do drab and It would liven the whole show up if he became more of a central character. It would also be much more convenient as we know who he is etc.

A while ago I suggested they do a "background" episode, where they focus on Gunther, Janice, Carol and Susan for an episode, while our Friends are in the background. It would be interesting to learn more about Gunther and Janice (their last names, at least) and the origins of their respective feelings for Rachel and Chandler. (Gunther may be obsessed with Rachel, but I think Janice has a genuine love for Chandler.) As far as Carol and Susan, an idea is Susan wanting to have a baby and trying to convince Carol to go along with the idea. I say Friends should make do with the extra characters they have.

Another thing about adding new characters: "Friends" is basically only two apartments/six regulars - Cheers is about a public bar and MASH was about a military camp.

I think they need to have a storyline where Ursula falls for Gunther - and Gunther tries so hard to break the news gently to Rachel.
