Season Finale Prediction

I have come out of "lurking" status to make a prediction. I'm not ever right about these things, but here goes...

Does anyone know if Elizabeth is still part of the show? She seems to me to be a throw-away character that normally would not have had more that a show or two before she was out of there. I think she is there for something other than just a girlfriend for Ross.

It would be just like the writers to make everyone think that Richard is back for Monica when in fact he is there for his very young girlfriend, Elizabeth. She apparently likes older men and forbidden love. She was seen on national television dancing with Ross. And you know the Chandler/Monica stuff isn't the only thing they will deal with.

I personally like C&M (R&R too) and would enjoy seeing the engagement and eventual marriage. I know Richard just being there is going to cause trouble but I'm not sure it will be as bad as it appears. With one season, maybe two, but most likely just the one left, causing too much trouble is not necessarily the best way to go. Cheating can't be fixed quickly and truthfully I think if they go that way they might as well shoot Monica in the head and bury her in the backyard. it would difinately be character suicide this late in the game. Look what happened to Ross.

I also will come out of lurker status to agree with the most part of your prediction. And I like the Richard/Elizabeth angle ... that would be interesting. Also, I don't think Richard's return will be the C&M calamity that people fear, precisely because it's being promoted as such by NBC.

I think we can't dismiss any possibility on the grounds that it is out of character. Remember; in December of 1996 nobody, but nobody would have bought the idea that loving, devoted puppydog Ross would lose Rachel because he slept with somebody else after a fight. I remember clearly one of the headlines from this newsgroup:

"NO WAY WOULD HE DO THAT TO HER!!!!!"

How badly this was out of character was a huge controversy then.

yes.. that was totally out of his character.. and the show suffered (an R+R fans) for it. But I have a feeling it will all work out in the end.. (or a desperate beg of it anyway !!)

There is one thing that seems certain to be wrong with this scenario. Elizabeth wil still be dating Ross at the beginning of the finale episode. We do know this for sure. She is not Richard's girlfriend, unless she's two-timing them.

But one thing we also know is that over the course of the first half of the episode, Ross and Elizabeth will break up, and Ross (I think) is pretty cut up about it. So it's not out of the realm of possibility, given this, although we also know for definite now that Richard's out to get Monica back (why, *why*, WHY?!?!?!), so it's probably unlikely.

Ratings, ratings, ratings. And the writers want to make the C&M story more interesting, and for some reason they only way they seem to do that within Friends couples is jealousy.

I meant it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that Elizabeth was cheating on Ross, seeing as she could very easily go for guys who are older than her (by that I mean at least five years older - even *I* tend to go for guys who are a couple of years older than me, but no more than that), if you took out the Richard element (which you may have guessed dawned on me about halfway through writing the previous post :)).

I'll wait until I see exactly how it's done, but I think they've pretty much really done it this time. (Hurrah, only two weeks until new episodes for me, and TOW Chandler Can't Cry is on next week! :))

Tina's prescription for Mondlerians: Visit any doctor at the lovely Roschelite practise. They feel your pain - they may appear rather happy at the sudden influx of patients, but they *do* feel your pain... :)

I attempted to add it at the end of the original post when I realised half-way through sending it how it sounded, but by that time the message had been sent and I *still* can't figure out how to cancel messages in Agent almost a year after changing to it (the "cancel message" thing never works for me). My brain is on hiatus this week, it seems.

Speaking as a Mondlerian, I really wouldn't mind if C&M "took a break." I thought they should have done that instead of moving in together after Vegas. There was a clear opening. As every long term couple knows, problems only add dimension to relationships (personal sigh), and that is especially true in fiction, where the anticipation (for the viewer) is historically much more fun than the fruition.

Mondlerian, as I originally intended the phrase, is merely a C&M fan. You are a Mondlerian. I am a Roschelite, though lately I've been more of a RoshappyscrewRachelite.
