901 - I expected something a lot worse

That was a quite funny episode actually, they ridiculed each other for their trademark habits without really hurting anyone, ie when Ross thinks that proposing to Rachel and not remembering it sounds like something he'd do. Jack Geller's part was weird, they seem to be going for a more "American Pie-esque" humour now, what with all the farting jokes and the sex jokes were even more blunt than they used to be.

My only complaint about this season opener: By the end of 824, we were supposed to think that Joey and Rachel were going to get together since Rachel accepted his proposal, which was a complete contradiction to what had been going on since 818. Now, during the season opener, we learn that Rachel likes Joey as a friend but definitely doesn't want to marry him unless she can't find anyone better to help her with Emma and that she's been considering getting back to Ross, which totally contradicts what they wanted to make us believe with the cliffhanger.

While I and a lot of others expected something like this, all this triangle and "we don't know where this is going" nonsense over the summer was nothing but a huge media hype to stay in the press. If at any point they had seriously considered getting Joey and Rachel together that scene with Monica and Rachel would *not* have aired, it's as simple as that.

Now, let's wait and see what the review man himself, Tennant Stuart, makes of all this, once he gets to see the episode ;)

Um, I didn't think it was a contradiction at all. It was very clear at the end of the last season, when Rachael said "okay" to Joey that she was in a frazzled state of mind and was only saying yes because Janice had come in and upset her. She had just told Janice that a spark was happening with her and Ross again. And had made it clear through that whole season last year, that she didn't love Joey. So it was very obvious that she didnt' have feelings for Joey on that last episode. I wasn't thinking all summer "who will she choose" or "what will happen?" because it was too obvious. To me, this was actually the only season finale of Friends that didn't have a cliffhanger. Because it's not a cliffhanger if it's not a suprise. And there was nothing suprising about it at all.

While you're perfectly right with what you say, this is something the casual viewer won't consider or think of. To him or her it just looks like Rachel accpeted a proposal from joey at the end of S8, when minutes before she wanted to get involved with Ross again. Any interview with the producers during the summer said that they don't where they're going with this triangle, but they resolved as quickly as they could in the new season and they went the predictable way, with Rachel and Ross sorting out a number of new obstacles until they eventually get back together. My comment was mainly criticism towards the producers and the US media for creating such a big fuss about a situation where it couldn't have been more obvious how it'll be resolved :)

I've edited my header to say this because I thought it was funny and I've got nothing better to do with my time. If you think I'm an immature person because of that, then I can't help you. Don't know if this is an immature teenager board, but I think most of the regulars here are well over 20 (I'm "only" 21 myself) and frankly I don't see how someone could be so upset about the Teletubbie remark. As for growing up, did you never read or watch Peter Pan? It's much more fun not to grow up! ;-)
