Fred Sanford reference

The Sanford & Son reference really surprised me, complete with Chandler's rendition of the theme. I enjoyed the show almost 30 years ago, but at 52 I assume I'm outside the target demographic for Friends. Has S & S been on one of the cable channels lately?

I'm 31 and about the same as Chandler.....I remember Sanford and Son.........

hey, I am 22, and I remember the reruns of the show when it was on many years ago. I don't remember how old I was, but I remember the theme song. Actually my neighbor has a car that is like theirs on the show. A truck, and when she drives it down the street my family goes-its the Sanford mobile. And hum the theme song like Chandler did tonight. She knows we make fun of the car, but she was laughing as we hummed it to her one day. This reference just made it so much funnier for me. Glad I taped this one.

I think it was on Nick at Night or TVLand for a while. Don't know if it's still there.

My local NBC affiliate used to show it in syndication in the half hour before prime time, but that was 10 years ago.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking! My mom used to say that about MY closet when I was growing up! :-) I'm betting too many though wouldn't get the reference but still!

I didn't get the Sanford reference, but I have heard of it. I am assuming it was a show a while ago. i have never heard of Fibber McGee. who is that?

One of the best Sitcom's ever. Kind of a opposing viewpoint to Archie Bunker's All in the Family. Also influenced Chico and the Man with Freddie Prinz Sr. Actually think there were claims of copycatting and I believe the Sanford and Son made fun of that in a episode about a show called "Steptoe and Son" which the show was based on. Great characters on the show:

It was one of those 'old-time radio' series. It was on from (I believe) 1933-1954(?). Fibber McGee was a guy who always told these ridiculously exaggerated stories, and nobody believed them. Molly was his wife. This show was also where the phrase "Tain't funny, McGee" came from. Anyway, one of the big gags on the show was that Fibber had this closet that was just crammed full of crap. Every time he opened it, everything fell out. It was one of those things that is funnier if you just hear the stuff falling out, instead of seeing it.

I know that my local UPN station (Channel 50 in Chicago and Gary) airs Sanford & Son late nights. It's one of the classic comedies on television. Everyone knows S&S.

I haven't seen the show in recent memory (meaning the last 20 years). I was about to post saying that I watched it as a kid, but have never seen it in re-runs. However, after checking imdb.com, it only aired until '77, so I must have been watching it as re-runs when I was little. I was born in '76.

I think the only thing I really remember is the song and that old guy (I guess, Sanford?) always thinking he was having a heart attack. I don't even remember the son.

Don't feel alone! I'm 47 and certainly not in the target demographic for "Friends", but it is my favorite sitcom and I watch it religiously, along with the syndicated episodes.
