The point is it's common netequette to check out a messageboard or newsgroup FAQ before posting. It's just laziness. If you want to see what I mean check out the forum at Nirvanaclub.com. You are made to read an FAQ, and answer questions to prove that you've read it, there are strict posting rules about topics that have been discussed over and over. On top of that you can't post until two weeks after you register. ATF should be for civilized discussion, in depth, and we should not have to keep answering the same questions over and over.

So, it's all just about netiquette instead of being friendly? The fact is that a lot of people don't know about the common netiquette in NG. Maybe someone should post on a weekly basis a link to the FAQ to avoid this kind of thing...

Which is what I've been banging on about for a while now. It's the same with any NG or MB, I suppose inexperienced users can be excused, but if it's their first mistake, we should still tell them. Most experienced users, who are experienced enough to know about Usenet should know anyway.

Some might argue (And I lean slightly to this direction, despite being an artist myself) it is not really stealing since broadcast television is presented, free of charge, to anyone who has the equipment receive it. With this in mind, the greatest argument against downloads that I can see is that the commercials are usually clipped. Now, there is a violation of the spirit of broadcast TV!

Furthermore, if most people providing downloads of television shows avoid any type of profit, they really haven't harmed anyone. I see it as a service that could, in fact, keep interested viewers engaged in the programs they enjoy watching. I can remember on more than one occasion when I missed at least two episodes of a program. I felt out of the loop, and therefore, didn't watch any more episodes of that show that season. I think, if I had been able to download the episodes and catch up, I might have kept watching the remainder of the season.

But by all means keep the ads intact. Those are the organizations that made the broadcast possible in the first place by paying for the air time.

But a contract has to be agreed to by both sides before it is valid. I never signed or agreed to any contract saying I would watch commercials. If someone chooses to broadcast a signal into my living room, it is my right to ignore any portion of that signal I choose to ignore.

Which is what we should be like. I have to download episodes, because I live so far out in the country, I can't get a good tv reception, and sattelite/cable is not available here.
