Monica's apartment, again

OK, I know I'm really obsessing about this, but the topography of that apartment building is driving me nuts.

In a recent episode (I don't think this is much of a spoiler) Chandler takes the fire escape. But he appears to go through a different window than the one they use to get onto the balcony. But in other episodes we see the fire escape is attached to the balcony; e.g. TOW George Stephanopoulos, when Rachel loses the pillow, and in TOW 2 Parts (?) when Rachel falls when taking down the Christmas lights.

...But *that* doesn't make sense either, since in some episodes (TOW Rachel Finds Out) we see that the window leads directly onto the balcony on that side. What is up with that building?!

I haven't noticed any problem before. The window has always been down the hall by the green closet door. The angle of the shot from the balcony has changed, such as the two episodes you mention with Rachel. One thing that HAS changed, however, is the size of the balcony. Perhaps that's what is throwing you off.
