Is JL the first guest on Friends who's repeated as a guest with no continuity from his first appearance? (Giovanni Ribisi came back, but started as a tiny bit and got cast as a recurring character. Tom Sellek had a recurring character, so did Maggie Wheeler.)
Or did no one remember him as the stoned guy looking for a chef in S1?

Why would you say "no continuity"? He did smoke pot and it was said that he used to have a restaurant.
Phoebe didn't tell since and why she knew him. I don't remember whether Rachel met him back then.

Besides, it's hard for me to say objectively how memorable he'd be since I've seen the episode several times. If we got to see scenes from our lives repeated over and over, we might remember them, but I could see forgetting about someone you only knew for a few hours eight years ago.
