I recently found out about the new Friends DVD box for Vol. 3/4 for the US release, containing anothe 10 "fan favourite" episodes. Given the great stuff to be had int he first two DVDs, I'm gonna buy it anyway, but I'd liek to know what episodes will be contained in this next batch. Does anyone know??

Don't these "big corporations" know that they are *required* to sell us their product? And why stop with Friends episodes? Tenant, really, you crack me up sometimes. There is no such "right", there is no such obligation on the part of "the big corporations". It is their product, and it is *their* "right" to do with as they please. Not to mention that no one has take away our freedom to tape and save the episodes the first time around.
The problem, of course, is that when DVD's do become available in the US (and they will someday), it will be from Columbia House, and then you'll get The Collector's Edition, and if you want to know ahead of time which episodes they are going to leave out, you will have to hire a private investigator ;-) Usually what happens is they come in "theme" packages, rather than in broadcast order. I can report that the MASH Collector's Edition includes every single episode from seasons 1 through 5 for certain, 6-8 probably. But my Cheers Collector's Edition does not contain one single complete season, and only goes up through the first handful of episodes from season 6. My Barney Miller has only 10 tapes total.

Sorry for sounding naive, I am new to all of this - but would I need to get a different DVD player (it says 'Region 2'....and from what I *think* I know - which isn't much :P - then that is not what we have here in the US. On the other hand, in principle all DVD players can change region, you just need to know the secret code combination to type into your remote, to access the service menu. Some of these are more secret than others.
Apart from "Friends", there is a huge amount of British & American TV available on R2 DVD that is absent from the US market, or maybe only marginally available in "best of" forms.
You can also get top movies on R4 that haven't come out on R1 yet...

It depends on your DVD player. Most of the players in the US are Region 1 only. Some are universal which means they don't care what DVD you put in them. Even some DVD players will play VCDs. Look up in your documentation what regions your DVD supports. Universal DVD players were incredibly hard to find a while back and were expensive. I believe they have come down some, but have not kept up with the prices.
