The question remains is how many of you out there want to see Ross and Rachel together? It seems like this show has always revolved around them but it seems to being going away from that couple. Is there hope?
By the way -- all of you should catch DOWN WITH LOVE with renee zellwegger and ewan mcgregor -- this is one of the best romantic comedies ever made -- full of style and so much fun. This is not to be missed. Now playing
I don't want Ross & Rachel together. They've had too many chances to make it work and each one has failed. Baby or not, they don't have the "chemistry" that they did when the show began in 1994. They've matured and grown apart. Their emotional and stability needs have changed. ~~~ Kathy

When were they "soooooooooooooooooooo great together"????? Before, during or after the break! They don't belong together. They've had too many opportunities to be together and have blown each of them. Just because they have a child together doesn't mean they should BE together. They don't work together anymore as a couple. They are on different ends of the spectrum. Nothing at all in common except Emma. Maybe during the first years, they were OK, but Rachel has grown, changed and matured as a woman and unfortunately, Ross is still the same. He was never supportive of her career (i.e. all the jealousy over Mark) and the amount of time she spent working. Rachel needs to be with somebody that understands her desire to succeed at her chosen career path and that person is clearly and without a doubt -- Joey! ~~~ Kathy

They were not a "couple" early in season 9. They only lived together. First because she was pregnant, then after Emma was born so both parents could be there. They had separate bedrooms. Ross's actions is what forced her out of the apartment and back into Joey's. R&R shared a kiss before Emma was born. That was it. Even with the engagement ring at the beginning of season 9 (end of season 8), Ross wasn't planning to propose. Joey and Rachel are going to be a great couple. ~~~ Kathy

Actually I think they tend to write off the endings that we don't see coming. Like last year with Joey's proposal, it was a shock and then quickly written off. However, when Chandler and Monica got together it was built up over time, just like J+R (this time), and then they continued it in the new season.

All true, except for one thing: J+R was not constantly built up, they were very close friends in the seventh season, came even closer during the first half of the eighth, then there was Joey's crush on her (or his falling in love with her, when I say crush, I don't mean to judge about his feelings). After 817, the storyline was dropped like a hot potatoe, only brought back for the season finale and then seemingly buried for good when Joey basically told Ross that somewhere down the road he and Rachel would work it out (902). Of course that was when everybody thought S9 would be the last, which unfortunately it isn't. There was the odd mentioning of this storyline during S9, but Joey seemed well over it, shortly after Rachel moved back in he told Ross that his feelings for Rachel were long gone (although I'm sure by that time the writers already knew they were going to bring it back). Then there was this incredible stinker of an episode called TOW the blind dates (the only good thing about the episode was Jon Lovitz and he wasn't even that good), where Joey allies with Phoebe to try and get R+R back together. It's been constantly built up through the May Sweeps, but nothing else. Or R+R fans might argue that there's been a constant buildup for R+R for the last nine years ;o)

my thoughts are these. explanations will be needed. ross will split up with charlie, knowing what happened with joey. monica and phoebs won't be happy at all with the idea of them beeing together. eventually they will decide to break. certainly with the fact that both of them aren't "compatible". dunno how the writers will sort that out without making it even more dramatic ( it's already too dramatic, i hate those kinds of cliffhangers) then there will be three episodes where noone will talk about the R&J thing, Rachel will realize she has no feeling for joey anymore. she will have a hard time with on or another thing, and the only one who will or could help her will be Ross. They will then get back together, with the end of the season beeing the celebration of their wedding.

I kinda liek the Ross & Charlie story line but I don't see it goign anywhere for long. I mean she is more suited for him than some of the people he has dated but while there seemed to be more of a connection between the 2 of them than there was between Joey & Rach, It still wasnt enough to convince me that they were it for each other.
I am happy that Mike is back. I missed David ('cause I love Hanks acting style) but I adore the relationship that Mike & Pheobe have.
hi i've been lurking for a while, but i finally decided to post cuz im so mad about the ross/rachel thing. I'm still hoping for a ross/rachel reunion, but for some reason, the writers don't like them together. And i am and have been thoroughly dissapointed w/ these writers. While the jokes are funny and everything, the way they build up then COMPLETELY drop the ross/rachel storyline, makes me so angry. And don't even get me started on how much they've completely RUINED Ross' character and made Joey much more noble now. Do they hate ross? As someone said, in one of the earlier posts in this thread, back when it was thought that season 9 was the last, it was so obvious that the writers were planning on getting r and r back together again. But my question is, what in the WORLD made them abandon their feelings that ross and rachel should be together (since after all, the ross/rachel storyline has been one of the major storylines since the very first episode) and made them think "you know what, hey let's make the show incestuous and get joey and rachel together." I heard from wanda at eonline, that the writers are currently pro joey/rachel. And now i don't see how it's possible to get ross and rachel together, now that we know what happened in the season finale (i dont' wanna spoil it for those who haven't seen it.) Ugh it's just aggrevating.

The article said that BKC were using audience paneling to help them determine who the fans wanted Rachel to end up with, Ross or Joey, with a 72% lead for Joey so far. It was a very convincing fake. I'm positive that is the source of Wanda/Kristen's information.
Quite a disappointment to us poor JnR fans.
You RnR people should hang in there. You're going to get your wedding in the end. We JnR people will be left twisting in the wind with a handful of epsiodes and our memories.

Yeah, I'm the one who started this whole thing as a prank that the other mods at Angel's were in on with me. (I'm DanG82 at Angel's.) It sure freaked some people out... & nobody even questioned the source until things got out of hand & I had to tell people it was a joke. (Obviously, some people take the show's whole couple thing WAY too seriously to take a joke.) There were people sending plastic lobsters & cut-out pictures of Ross & Rachel to Burbank to try to persuade the producers to change their mind!

Am I the only one who here who thinks that if Rachel and Joey end up together then Rachel comes off looking really bad? She interferred with every serious relationship that Ross ever had: Julie, Bonnie, Emily, and even Mona to some degree. Ross never did that to her (that I can remember off the top of my head) and if she then ends up with Joey she will appear to be an even more selfish character than I even imagined. Do the writers really want to do that?

Rachael wants her cake and to eat it too. She always has. Ross told Joey last year that he would step back and let the two of them be together. If the shoes were on other feet and say it was Ross and Phoebe, would Rachael say the same thing? I highly doubt it. She's selfish. Ross deserves better. But like someone mentioned earlier, there will be a R&R wedding in the end. It's kind of like.. DUH! You know it will happen. So why waste your breath arguing for a J&R coupling. Poor Joey is going to start feeling love again for someone who has done said she's only physically attracted to him. Lust isn't love. :( Poor Joey.
But, she's only had the FEELINGS of lust because she doesn't know what it's going to be like to be with him until now. Lust can turn into love very, very easy. Especially when the other party reciprocates feelings, too. For Joey, this isn't like some random woman telling him that she has "lusty" feelings for him. This is Rachel. He is getting exactly what he has wanted since season 7 when he had the "dream" about Monica after seeing her and Chandler together. Monica told him to develop a friendship first. Well, he has. Rachel has been one of his best friends for 9 years and now they're taking it to the next level -- just like Monica and Chandler did! There's way too much baggage with the R&R history to allow them a successful relationship. Rachel will never care for Ross in the way everyone wants her to. All he is to her is her friend and Emma's father. Rachel is clearly looking at Joey in a new light (finally!) and they really do have much more in common than her and Ross. ~~~ Kathy

I don't see how you can POSSIBLY trace the J/R storyline back to season 7. That's just wishful thinking trying to make things and trying to make something out of nothing. That dream was about monica and joey's interest in rachel didn't develop until rachel was pregnant, a long time after that episode. I don't even think the writers considered a J/R storyling until the end of season 7 at the EARLIEST.

On a simlar note, I've been watching the season 7 reruns lately and the Joey and Rachel moments are really funny--it's weird to see how often the sparks fly, and how cute they are together. I'm thinking of the epi with Joey's boat, for example, when Rachel tries to teach him to sail.
Too, these earlier epis reveal that the "dumb Rachel" jokes in this season's finale are nothing new. They're all over the place in earlier seasons. I bring that up b/c I've read posts (often in lurk mode) suggesting that the dumbing down of Rachel in the finale was forced . . . but I really do see her portrayed that way consistently in older epis.
