I agree that the happiest Friend is Joey. It all boils down to one critical thing: of the six people, he is the one who is emotionally the most healthy, and therefore needs to play the fewest head games with others.

I have to agree with Vanessa. Monica was the first one to come to mind. She has everything she wants (except a baby). the only main thing that gives her problems are her parents, but she doesn't deal with them too often. I think she has the most to be happy about though.

I totally agree. Monica seems really happy and content these days. After her initial reaction (i.e. 802 TOW The Red Sweater), she calmed down, and we haven't seen any signs of her being miserable. Even though she doesn't have any children yet, she knows that when they're ready, Chandler will be fine with it (e.g. 612 TOW The Joke, 702 TOW Rachel's Book, 724 TOW Monica and Chandler's Wedding, part 2).

This is a hard question...I know who I can definately cross out...Ross and Rachel...lol. Joey is happy as long as he has someone he can sleep with any given day of the week. But...its not just about the sex and having women all the time that would equal someone being happy. I don't think Phoebe is as happy as she would be if she had David the Minsk guy back. I wish they would bring him back. If I was Chandler I would not be happy because of how bossy Monica is and how he's treated like a child. I liked it when they were sneaking around. So I guess my pick would have to be...Monica!

So Monica wins by process of elimination for me as well. But here's what I think each "friend" needs:
ROSS: A stable family life. It would suit his true personality well. Oddly, he seems to want Rachel in that picture, but that's not for me to pick apart. (Not here, not now, anyway.)
RACHEL: A strong, understanding man who will give her enough room to continue her personal growth, but will also provide a safety net and a nurturing environment. Apparently she sees this potential in Ross. God help her.
CHANDLER: A backbone. I think he has developed some cartilage, but it's a long way from confident self-support. Maybe some career advancement might help him.
PHOEBE: A soulmate. It might be argued for or against for most people, but for her, it is a definite must. No halfway maybe man for her. David might be that guy, but they seem very different to me. Maybe they are supposed to complement each other.
JOEY: A nice, somewhat attractive (but not TOO attractive), down-to-earth girl from Brooklyn (or perhaps Sherman Oaks, CA?). She would have to be a well centered emotionally, and have a great deal of patience at first. I don't think he should pick an actress, but someone connected to the arts would be a nice fit. She must want kids. Joey is going to want, maybe three or four.
MONICA: A baby. She has everything else she needs. She is always the hostess, hence the door is rarely locked; the apartment is clean; she has a husband who loves her and will do whatever she asks. The only thing missing is the little one. And it's about time for that little one doncha think?
GUNTHER: His own series. Or perhaps Gunther and Joey move to LA to do a movie together. They share an apartment. The movie is a modate success. So, they are okay to start out, but must continue to strive and struggle to make ends meet. Gunther meets unusual people with great regularity and invites them to the apartment, making Joey appear to be Einstein in comparison. Joey starts dating a better quality of women, and establishes better relationships with them. He refuses to date women from the valley having the fear that they are bubble-heads, until years later, when this new series has run its course, and he meets the woman of his dreams from Sherman Oaks.

He needs some time off. To seriously think about what a stupid guy he was mostly since he broke up with Rachel.
He said Rachel *used* to be the face of his dreamt wife in TOW Rachel's Date. There's some serious stuff to be worked on before those two [three] could be happy together everly after.
She could be happy with a man like early seasons' Ross who adores her. For a while. Well, she already was in season 2-3. Now she needs a man and a father for her child who loves her, but giving contra too; this /could/ be Ross as both are maturing.
Additionally he needs a kid to do right what his parents did wrong. Before that his life wouldn't be fulfilled.
I think she's perfectly happy already, otherwise she would change it immediately. Her friends are building up families now, thus they might share less time with her, thus she might have the time and need for one man in her life.
Pre-812-Joey doesn't need that to be happy, just food'n'sex and at least one close friend. I dunno how he can be happy 20 years from now.
One won't do it.

Sofya--I don't think it's an acronym, but rather an exclamation like "Aaargh!" Cathy (of the comic strip) uses it this way all the time.

If I understand the use, it's like Bill the Cat from the comic strip Outland who used to say "Ack" to show dislike for something--kind of like "acking" up a hairball. One of the six friends might say "eeeewwwww" instead.

Oops, I thought it was used in English Usenet as well, it's quite common in the German part (de.*). It's from the modem protocols and is short for "acknowledged". The opposite is NAK or NACK.
