Just wondering what the big deal is? So? - Survivor are beating Friends in the ratings, is it such a big deal? I don't know how the ratings system works in the States, but are they beating them by that much?
Surely it's not unusual for a new programme to beat an 'old' programme? I mean, Friends has been around for a hell of a long time and we can't expect it to be No.1 on a Thursday night forever. Is it No.2 on the ratings list?

Personally, Im amazed that people actually watch those type of shows (Survivor and such). I dont think its a big deal that a new program would beat Friends in the ratings, but I am surprised that its Survivor thats doing it.

I personally don't mind those type of shows, but if it's a choice between a 'regular' programme that I watch then there's no contest. Do these ratings include people who 'tape' Friends to watch later?

Yes. When you fill out your Nielsen rating book, you write down both what
you watch and what you recorded. Personally, I'm surprised that "Survivor
2" is beating "Friends" by as much as it is. "Friends" is not usually
ranked number 2, but both are drawing pretty good numbers. I didn't think
"Survivor 2" would fare that well, but was badly mistaken. In certain
demographics, "Friends" outdraws "Survivor 2." My feeling is, had "Friends"
married Monica and Chandler at the start of February sweeps, it would have
kept "Survivor 2" from getting off to a strong start.
Not knowing what was discussed here(haven't posted or lurked in nearly a
year) , but for the most part, the expanded episodes shown here in the
United States were well-written. Only one was a dud.
The surprise, by the way, is not so much that a new show is defeating an
old show. The surprise is that it's a reality show, a "summer" hit that is
actually coming back and doing so well. Hell, I even watch Survivor's
second half hour, because it's interesting to see this maneuvering. Right
now "Survivor 2" will continue to outperform, because the show is in reruns.
Even next week, they're scheduled to show the very first episode.Didnt they just show the first episode not too long ago? Or was that the 7:30 show?

In syndicated reruns, which local stations run, yes. This is the first episode running again in the network run, which, for the most part, is unusual. The pilot has run quite a few times on the network, but it's not particularly common---though it has happened----for a network to run an episode of any program when that episode is also airing in syndication.
I tape Friends alot! Hopefully they do count those as ratings.

Has anyone heard of the new one thats coming out? The one where they chain 1 guy and 4 girls together and 1 girl and 4 guys together and we have to watch them try to live! OK.
