Spinoffs work every so often like "Frasier," but we really don't need another Michael Richards debaucle, or AfterMASH.

Any one of the Friends characters would make a great focal point of a spinoff, but unfortunately, that's not always enough.

It would be better if there wasn't a spin off, cause what if it's not successful? Then everyone would remeber Friends as 'good series, shame about the spin off' and it would stain the reputation as the best sitcom. It think it should end at series 8 and make it as happy as it can be without any open ends.

Absolutely! I can't think of even a *movie* sequel that was as good as the original. I really wish the producers of say, Highlander, had stopped with the first film. Unfortunately the big execs think, hey--they loved the first one, they'll love another one exactly like it: case in point--Home Alone.

I'd like to see Friends remembered for the jewel that it was. And maybe we can eek out a "reunion" movie a few years from now. But let's not tarnish the memory by taking a chance on what could be the worst TV spinoff imaginable.

Interesting question. I love all the Bond flicks--any Bond, any decade! But I never thought of them as sequels because they don't necessarily pick up the storyline the one previous to it, and the villain is usually different.

I always thought of them as "serials" but maybe they are sequels depending on definition.

This is why most people think that all sequels are bad, because when a sequel is very good, they forget that there was ever an original, which in this case was Manhunter, with Brian Cox as Hannibal Lecter.

None of those were as good as the original, some were bad.

No offense, but there were also a lot of King Kong movies and only a few of them were actually sequals to eachother. The story of Hannibal Lectar may not be original, but was Manhunter actually the first part? Is there an official link between Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs.

Personally I'm not a big fan of bloody movies, but I thought Silence of the Lambs was hilarious. The same goes for The Excorsist. The whole concept of scary movies went to shreads when movies like Haloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street came out. A bad guy that just won't die? Please.... I have to agree with Tennant on that one, Marita. They've been getting more money each season and the only reason actors and actrices are in that business is for the money. If they can get even more than they make now, they'll go for another season. But....what about the writers and producers, Tennant? Do they really want to go into another season? All I can say Marcel is that I've been watching S7 & you haven't, so you'll just have to take my word for it until you do.

Bewitched & Cheers lasted as long as MWC, and MASH went on for much longer, and all three series were far better than MWC, and Friends is far better than those three. There are always new stories to be told, to say otherwise betrays a lack of imagination.

The very obvious is going to happen in Friends (if it hasn't already) and those that have been watching the show from the very beginning know what that is. There might be some focussing on Joey and Phoebe and the whole R&R thing might be rekindled. I don't have an opinion of Bewitched because I've never seen it and Cheers was never my favorite show, but MASH can never be beat. Friends takes a good second place. MCW is a show by itself, but I think the whole story has been told. I'm not even sure if it's still being made.

Just because SOTL wasn't called Manhunter 2 doesn't stop it being a sequel, it was another movie about the same main character doing the same sort of thing from another book by the same author.

One *could* argue that this is not a true sequel since it merely rehashed the first movie... ;)

But of course! I shouldn't need to keep typing "IMHO" every time I write that one movie is better than another, for this whole topic is infused with our personal opinions.

You do know that it isn't? It's the second book and the second film. Just because they recast Hannibal it doesn't make it a new thing; otherwise Hannibal isn't a sequel to TSOTL because they recast Clarice.

This may be hard for me to say with a straight face, but ... I see Rambo: First Blood Part II as the beginning of the end for Sylvester Stallone as a serious actor. First Blood was a great movie that was supposed to be about something important. (The book is better. It was a character play about the interrelationship of a Vietnam War veteran (Stallone/John Rambo) and a Korean War veteran (Brian Dennehy/Sheriff Teasle). By the time Rambo: First Blood Part II came along Stallone's career had hit a slippery slope from which he is still trying to recover

I think Godfather II is generally acknowledged as being better than the first. Although each won the Best Picture Oscar, so it is a tough call.
