I love Friends!!!

This is my fave show on the air! It's great! Like the stories are just so fresh and unpredictable, you know? My most fave episode in the world is the won where Richard shows up again and tells Monica he stills loves her right before Chandler can propose. It was SO suspenseful. Sometimes the show is really really sad though. Like in that same episode where Elisabeth breaks up with Ross. I cried and cried when that happened. But I was really happy that Joey won the sailboat 'cause he wanted it. Ok bye.

Actually, I find this the funniest: Scally has in his sig a comment blasting *Rosie O'Donnell* for being obnoxious.

I think he's got a grain of a point about the most extreme spoiler police, thought. (Please do not think I support the way he handled it.) I suspect he did this because the paranoia about spoilers got so loud and so bossy he decided to make sure everybody was completely disappointed. And he probably won't leave until either everybody is tricked into knowing every detail about the finale, or the bickering about spoilers ceases. I think we should all just shut up for awhile and let him play all by himself.

It's true what you said about Scally's intentions, and we should just ignore him, despite how angry he made quite a few people who didn't want to know about the ending. I was lucky that I knew the outcome due to a spoiler way back, so I wasn't phased by the so-called surprise season finale post by Scally. But I felt bad for those who didn't know, and I know I would be pissed off too.

I know how they feel. I made a terrible mistake of revealing the bit ER surprise from last Thursday in the subject (yikes), and paid for it. I apologized for my mistake and informed the readers that I had no intention on disrespecting their wishes not to be told. I got caught up in the moment, and lost my train of tought. However, I apologized. Scally has no remorse or feelings or respect for his fellow readers, and therefore the we should in return do the same for Scally (by not responding to him, and maybe in fact killfiling him from the friends NG). That way, when he decides to be a jerk-off (when isn't he), and posts another message the way he did, he will be writing into dead space. Just like the space between his ears.

I seriously doubt Scally intended to leave a big mystery. I knew who it was the minute I saw the sender field. Guys, please think rationally and realistically for a second. Scally is being rude, but unfortunately he isn't doing anything that his ISP is really going to act on. He hasn't used excessive foul language, he isn't posting racial slurs and his posts aren't pornographic. The ISP is not going to care that he told everybody what the plot developments on a TV show are. Scally is right; what he's doing falls (mostly) within the realm of free speech. I don't like that TV show. I pretty much hate all sitcoms. I used to watch them but they became so incredibly predictable and insipid and stupid and phony that I can't watch them anymore. I pretty much dislike all kinds of episodic TV series, except for Star Trek, but even that I don't watch very often any more. I have tons of cable channels and I usually look for a good movie to watch, or a good sports event, such as boxing or tennis or figure skating. Sometimes I like to watch the discovery channel, history channel, or travel channel. Sometimes I tune in to one of the music video channels, such as MTV, MTV2, VH1, and MuchTV, but usually if I do that I get pissed off because the songs are so horrible or because they keep showing the same 10 godawful videos over and over. I hate most of the songs they play on these channels. That idea they had of playing every music video in the MTV library would have been a great idea if they had organized them by the bands rather than by song title. That screwed it all up. I would have loved to make tapes of all the videos of my favorite bands, but the way they organized it makes it too much trouble. Oh yea I heard there's another new MTV music channel now. I think it concentrates on music of the 70's, 80's and 90's. Isn't that what VH1 was supposed to do? Speaking of VH1, isn't it funny how most of this bands in "behind the music" got ripped off? I used to think famous musical artists were rich, but actually most of them are broke bums because they got ripped off or because they only had 1 hit song. Then after their 15 minutes of fame is over, most of them have to get regular day jobs and a few play small time gigs as musicians.

Actually, Scals, you are about half right. It is obvious to me that you are genuinely put off by the idea of Spoiler Police who go jump on every post that might give away any small detail about any episode that might air a year from now in some other country.

You think it's gone too far.  I do, too.  Having the plot of a TV show
spoiled for you may be a little annoying, but it really isn't worth this
much upset and anger.   The world is full of real problems.  This is not
one of them.   I got a little annoyed when  people suddently started
protesting Chris Bastian's broadcast schedule, which he's been posting
regularly as a source of very useful information for months.  I
understand that people prefer not to know certain things, and I obey
spoiler rules out of consideration for others feelings.  I agree with
you that Spoiler Police takes a courtesy, which should have been a
common gesture of kindness like saying Please and Thank You, and tries
to shove it down people's throats as if it were a law.   It is an
uncivil way of promoting civility.   That bothers me as much as it does
you.  There *are* issues of free speech here.  And ultimately, the act
of talking on a newsgroup which discusses a TV show by definition opens
you up to spoilers.  Heck, this week, even watching NBC at any time runs
you the risk of having the show spoiled.  As I write this post, they
just ran the promo, and it pretty much spills the beans.  Caveat Emptor
- let the buyer, or in this case, the reader and viewer, beware.

The difference, of course, is that I talk to these people often and am concerned about their feelings. Since you do not like the show, our taste is suspect to you and you don't feel any reason to be concerned about whom you upset. I see the merit in manners; you don't. While you don't really upset me much at all, I am feeling rather bad for several people in this group, most of them young, whom you have really made unhappy. (I'm being Den Mom - I really AM close to being middle aged, though I'm not balding, thank you very much!) :-)

Real ISPs (those being anything other than AOL for instance) have news-abuse departments chock-full of staff that don't appreciate having their time wasted investigating frivolous complaints sent by crybabies, tattletales and other such whiners who got their feelings hurt. See, they know what killfiles are for and they know that unmoderated groups on Usenet are just that. If the crybaby, tattletale or other such whiner who got their feelings hurt cries wolf so many times that they wind up being seen as a bigger nuisance than the people they're whining about, the abuse news team can very well look at them as the boy who cried wolf, thus it's not worth investigating anything they send in in the future. Which means that if you get to that point, and the day comes that a Mindspring user mailbombs you, stalks you, posts your phone number and address publicly, threatens your life or anything that is actually serious, that member of the abuse department might just say fuck it and toss your complaints in the garbage.
