Where have the writers/producers given themselves an opportunity to do a really good storyline and then not? I ask because for me they made a big mistake in 615 TOW Could Have Been .... why the hell did they make Pheobe a stockbroker? On no other occasion before or since has their been any mention of her opportunity she passed up. All 5 of the other characters 'alternate-worlds' were related to other episodes. They should've had Phoebe as Street Phoebe.

What is so great about Street Phoebe? As she said once herself, "Street Phoebe wouldn't be friends with you guys." Not much comedy there. I think the point of 615/616 is to see, as Rachel says, how different their lives would have been if they had just taken a different path. Those episodes are some of my favorites (as are most written by Kauffman/ Crane). Jennifer Aniston is outstanding as the bored housewife pining after Joey. She has one of the most hilarious scenes in Friends history -- a true moment of Zen -- when she falls off Joey's couch. It cracks me up every time. As for Phoebe, she has always had a slightly schizophrenic personality -- the sunny New Age girl contrasted against the aggressive and fearless street survivor. The point of the stockbrocker storyline is to see how Phoebe would eventually self-destruct is she let the darker and more aggressive side of her personality take over: "You're in my office!!!" Lisa Kudrow is great, as usual, playing the coarse and amoral power-grabber: "From now on, your name is Joan." I don't think that character is so far from the Phoebe we know and the proof is in the tag scene when Phoebe sings merrily "That is just what I will do when those bastards I worked for die!"
