Tv Shows DVD extras

I am a tv junkie, its no secret.... While I am happy to know that some of my fav shows are being released to DVD, I am just as dissapointed when I learn that there are no extras on the disks. There is so much potential for extras on DVDs for sitcoms & dramas. I just can't seem to figure out why the execs are neglecting to include them.

Extras are my favorite part of DVDs

I can't believe that the people in charge of putting these things together & getting them released are missing the boat on this great potential for sales by not including extras on these sitcom releases Its my personal feeling that if the producers of these shows that are being released on to dvds would include extras, more copies would be sold.

Would you be more inclined to purchase a dvd for the extras it included & what do you look for when you are checking out the extras, which are your favorites for viewing, whats the 1st extra you usually watch & whats usually the last one you check out???

For me I love bloopers, thats usually my 1st choice & what i immediatly look for. I personally dont buy vhs tapes anymore (unless its not avail on DVD) & if there are no extras unless its a totally awesome movie or show I usually bypass the dvd all together. I have quite a huge collection of DVDs & most I purchased because I liked the extras on it. No need to tell me I need therapy :-) this is something I already know lol

I am hoping that if we all lobby together we can get them to include extras such as interviews (past or present) behind the scenes, bloopers & my personal favorite, instead of a directors commentary version, a popup version would be oh so much more fun. Most of the time these extras are not included on TV show compilation discs simply because the shows are often either (a) still in production, so the cast & crew don't have the time to do anything above and beyond the normal call of duty, and/or (b) these extras would cost too much $$ and thus that would add to the total cost of the (already-pricey) DVD box set. I love extras too, but not if the final price tag is gonna go beyond my budget! Most of the currents sets are OK as is. But good luck with your campaign!

I agree with your rant. Extras are the best part of a DVD, and if you want extras, pickup The Simpson's on DVD. Season's one and two are out, and season three is on the way.

Extras include "The First Year Intern Handbook," an interactive feature containing complete character profiles, 45 "patient" histories of the various guest stars that have appeared on ER and a medical terminology glossary, two audio commentary tracks on the pilot episode, one from Michael Crichton and John Wells and another from pilot director Rod Holcomb and key production crew, additional key production crew and director commentaries on the powerful "Love's Labor Lost" episode directed by Mimi Leder and "Sleepless in Chicago," directed by Christopher Chulack, two featurettes about the medical consultants and writers who created the show's trademark realism and the series' post-production process), outtakes and unreleased scenes and even more hidden bonus materials. It'd be nice to get some of the extras that the Japanese box sets have, but I guess we should be glad Warners finally saw sense at all.
