Saw a rerun of the first season and compared it to this past season.
Interesting how the characters' appearances have changed. Interesting how
Jennifer Aniston has evolved from just plain cute to absolutely gorgeous.
Courteney Cox was absolutely gorgeous the first season, she's still very
attractive but now has been upstaged by JA. Lisa Kudrow; well, unfortunately,
let's say she hasn't quite aged as gracefully as the other two women. Oh
well...
Also interesting to see how much bigger Matthew Perry is now than in the first season. Matt LeBlanc looks pretty much the same (and just as stupid). David Schwimmer still is the nerdy guy but you can tell they've tried to give him more sex appeal in the later years than an in the beginning; from his hairstyle to the clothes he wears. JMO, what do others think?
Not just their appearances - I think their characters have changed an awful lot too:
Rachel has certainly progressed from being an innocent and ditzy waitress type to becoming a lot more confident - both career wise (working in Ralph Lauren) otherwise - you remember how she cried a lot (the episode that springs to mind would be when Mr Trieger makes her cry for blocking the trash chute with pizza boxes). I agree that her appearance has probably fuelled this added confidence
Monica has stayed much the same, although I think she's much better looking now than in the first season. She's not quite a neurotic as she was, although you do see elements of that still
Pheobe has changed a great deal - she was really really wierd in the first series, but now she's much calmer and saner. She was very hippy in the first and second seasons, whereas now she looks much more attractive. She wasn't very sexy in the first season, but I think she has definately improved - especially considering that she is much older than the other five
Joey's character has remained much the same - ironically he seems to have become much more immature as he as grown older. He seemed more monogomous in the first season, whereas now he has become much more promiscuous.
Chandler's humour has remained constant, but has grown in maturity. Marriage and committment always seemed beyond him, whereas marriage to Monica seemed so ineviatble after series 5.
Ross has become much more interesting - a lot less geeky. In series one he had only ever slept with Carol, but as the seasons have progressed he has grown more, relationship-wise. He has become funnier and much more likable. "FTseng2749" wrote in message news:[email]...

Ah, don't sweat the little stuff Dave. It's just a difference of opinion. I'm sure nothing personal was intended. I happen to disagree with you as well, at least about Joey, but it's no big deal. We are each entitled to our own opinions.

I'll grant that mine was rather strongly expressed, but that is only because I can't for the life of me understand where you got the impression that Joey was monogamous in season 1. I thought Joey was the oldest--maybe you are right though, because she did lose that whole year, but MUCH older--I don't think so.
I disagree. I think Joey has become less promiscuous. In the beginning he was sleeping around all over the place (always sleeping with more people than his dates). I think when he became aware of his father's extra-marital affair he started some self-examination. In a heart-to-heart with Chandler, he says, "I'm always going out with all these women. And I always figured, when the right one comes along, I'd be able to be a stand-up guy and go the distance, y'know?"
I'm not saying his dad's affair stopped him from sleeping around, but I think it got him to put his actions into perspective. He has grown gradually. Monica helped point out that he could "be there for her." This was a concept that previously hadn't even occured to him. When they were in Vagas, he pulled the "How you doin'?" on a very drunk Rachel. When she responded positively, his reaction was to tell Ross not to let her drink anymore.
I think there seems to be less wit in it. Perhaps that witty reparte is only really good when it's new and fresh. He's not at the point where he can pull off mature wit IMO.
Ross has slept with more women, but I think he's regressed in terms of relationships. When he needed to have the "where are we" talk with Mona and couldn't manage to do it, he seemed like a person who'd never been in a relationship, instead of a thirty-something who had been in several serious relationships.
