I've encountered a little problem with my English here. Does "leaves" mean the plural of "leaf" or is it a synonym for "leftovers" or something like that? I thought it's the first one, but since when do you put full leaves into hot water to gain tea? And since when do the Friends drink tea instead of some kind of coffee? Well, I understand why Rachel does.

Of course you don't put full leaves...it is just a linguistic pattern: "reading the tea leaves" when you want to lear about the future. You just have to accept it :) And the second question... Why? Are they some kind of coffe addicts :) normal people drink various stuff from taime to time...besides if the had only coffee, their blood pressure would be like... wow :) DOA...

Not full leaves, basically just the bits of leaf that you get in a tea bag but without the bag. But saying "reading the tea leaves" sounds better than "reading bits of leaves"
