In TOW All The Resolutions, Phoebe intends on teaching Joey how to play the guitar. Phoebe tells Joey that she does't know the actuall name of the chords, but she has nicknames for them, or something to that effect, but, a while back, I forget which season and episode, but Phoebe is removed from playing in Central Perk by a performer who will be payed to play in the coffee house. When Phoebe meets the new girl outside, she begins to question her, and asks her if she knows how to play a few chords, and she says the specific chords...so how can she know them then, and then forget them...just a thought!

I can't find it in the scripts, but IIRC in that episode she specifically asks "Do you know B?" And then I think she asks about two others.
I think it's likely she knows only the names of the real chords since they are just the alphabet. But I don't think she knows the finger positions of them.

I don't agree with that assessment. (Well, I agree with the observation that Phoebe is flaky.) She is not throwing out the names of chords at random; she knows how to go from D to A minor (possibly the only transition she does know) and she is throwing it at Stephanie (Chrissie Hynde) like it is a big deal to know this. I think the beauty of the line is that she thinks it is a big deal to know how to go from D to A minor when they are right next to each other.
