The One With the Cheap Wedding Dress - Joey and Ross battle for the lead role in Jungle Fever II Isn't monkey love a common cause of Gonorrhea?
Synopsis:
Joey and Ross wind up dating the same girl. When Ross breaks their hundred dollar spending limit on some flowers, Joey shows up at his date and ruins a good thing for both of them.
Monica tips off another shopper about a wedding dress sale. The other shopper and her fight over the same dress. To get revenge the other shopper hires the swing band Chandler wanted to hire for their wedding just to spite her. Beaten Monica trades the dress for the band.
Yeah I know that's all there was.
My Thoughts
Joey: It just seems like Ross is the kind of guy who would marry a woman on the verge of being a lesbian and then push her over the edge. Ross: Wait a minute, were you on a poster for gonorrhea? Joey: Have you ever slept in the same bed with a monkey? Ross: Hey you leave Marcel out of this Joey: Fine ever get stuck in a pair of your own leather pants? Ross: Have you ever locked yourself in a TV cabinet VD boy? Joey: Monkey Lover!
Was this episode directed by Spike Lee? The girls travel to Brooklyn as Joey and Ross compete for the affection of the first black character with a speaking role in ... was there ever a black speaking role on this show? When is Phoebe going to start dating Allen Iverson? At least it wasn't a big deal. I would hate to have to see a deep emotional Guess Who's Coming to Dinner situation. Who knows, in time this show may reflect the cultural diversity of American Meccas like Iowa and Montana. Way to take that first uncertain step! I love when shows remember their history. So Ross vs. Joey was pretty funny. Of course, you needed to suspend your disbelief because Ross gets less and less normal in every episode. "This street was the first in the city to have sewage lines?" That's even worse than when he incompetently tried to flirt with that pizza girl. Face it Ross' masculinity has taken a beating ever since he peaked with hitting on Isabella Rosalini and getting Rachel into the Princess Leia gold bikini. Remember the guys versus girls football game? If that was replayed, the girls would win by six touchdowns and Rachel would leave Ross in worse shape than the time he tried to impress Emily by playing Rugby. Ross was the sensitive guy you wanted to see fall romantically in love. Now you hope he doesn't embarrass you in front of strangers. Am I being harsh? Bagpipes, powdered leather pants, bleached teeth, lounging around his apartment pretending to watch television, policing his library book, claiming elite Kung Fu knowledge, while throwing his back out lifting a box of books. This man has seen his better days. It's time for Ross to take a good look at his life and ask for a do over.
Joey: Oh wow what a beautiful name ... what was it again?
What was the deal with my man Joey. He took a beating this week. He's actually speaking on Days of Our Lives and he can't afford to match Ross' spending. Come on, I mean he's sort of Dr. Drake Ramoray. The morale to our story never cross your pals because they know all your worst secrets and never take thirty five dollars to pose for Venereal Disease poster.
Rachel: So this is Brooklyn.
Remember how funny it was when Fred and Barney would infuriate their wives and they would take revenge by going on a shopping spree and they would lose Pebbles and Bamm Bamm in the wake of all the other crazed shoppers? I bet they wish they had gym whistles like Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe. Monica let me down tonight too. She is one hardcore neurotic femme, and I loved it when she threw her dress competitor to the floor and pinned her with prejudice, but she could have been more successful tonight. This was like the Cuban Missile Crisis and Monica blinked. That other woman can't afford a full priced dress and she is going to pay a swing band to do nothing the day of the Bing Wedding? Had Monica been her usual bulldog self she could have had her cake, eaten it and danced joyously in her Nutty Monica outfit when it was all said and done.
Chandler: By the way what's the name of the girl you're dating? Joey and Ross: Kristen Leigh Chandler: Bye!
Wow Chandler, Rachel and Phoebe sure didn't do much tonight. Remember when Chandler would say clever things? Apparently, Matthew Perry chemical dependancy problems have reduced him to assuring Monica she isn't overbearing and making funny faces.
Those damn super size episodes killed it for everyone.
Remember how fun driving was when you reveled at how fast 55 MPH felt, and then your mischievous pal goaded you into driving 112 one night. After that going 55 never felt as fun again and you were forced to drive at least that slow for the rest of your long unproductive nights. After the mega episodes this one seemed shorter than a this is your brain on drugs ad. It sure felt like we had at least long enough for Monica and Chandler to take swing dancing lessons and argue over who got to lead. Maybe they could have finally finished the Jason Alexander episode. If he's dead, I want to know how come I didn't get to watch.
Joey: We're going to have to set a spending limit on the date. I don't have the money to take her to a fancy place like that. Ross: Well, sorry that's what I do on dates. Joey: Alright, well I guess I'll just have to do what I do on dates. Ross: So let's decide on a spending limit. Joey: Six dollars? Ross: I this thinking more like a hundred. Joey: OK can I borrow 94 dollars?
