settle an arguement :)

Me and Mike are having a mini arguement, he reckons I'm the only one who understands why emily acted the way she did about Rachel, but I reckon there must be one opther person who understands. We're also argueing over whether or not Ross was in love with Rachel when he said 'I take thee Rachel' I don't think he was, he was just confused, what are your opinions? ta :)

Let me clarify Toni's message...

I said that Emily "overreacted" and became a bitch after the "...take thee, Rachel" bit. I understand why, but she was kinda outta line, if you ask me. If she felt that uncomfortable about Rachel, she should have just made it clear that SHE did not want to be around her (and I know that this was just the writers' way of getting rid of Emily, so don't go giving me the big speech).

And about Ross' reasoning (or lack thereof) behind saying "Rachel," I think it's clear that he had some kind of feelings still for Rachel, whether or not he was "in love" with her.

Opinions?

Emily was justified I think in disliking Rachel, for the obvious reason that her wedding was ruined because of Ross mentioning her name, and I think Emily suspected Ross still had feelings for her but hadn't said anything up until that point. Remeber, she was willing to forgive Ross, until she saw R&R at the airport and ready to go on their honeymoon..you gotta admit, that looked bad.

However, I think she overreacted when she tried to get Ross to move to London with her, seeing that his Son was in New York. In a way, I understand her feelings about not wanting Ross to see Rachel, but she shouldn't have tried to force Ross to stop seeing her. She should have had more faith in him, I think it was obvious that Ross was truly sorry for what happened at the wedding. But she was just insecure and if she had felt that Ross still cared for Rachel then she might not have wanted to work at it and took the easy way out of the marriage.

I think he was and still is in love with her...

any r and r fan will tell you that he was in love with her. He may just not have realized it...

I'm not an R & R fan but I think he was still in love with her. Although, I'm sure all of our moms have mistakenly called us by a sibling's name...... HOWEVER, a wedding is a very important time to not mess up on a future spouse's name. I don't think Emily overreacted. Rachel obviously was on Ross's mind at that time.

I have mixed feelings on this subject. On one hand I'm like who does she think she is telling Ross not to see one of his best friends! And then I put myself in her shoes and think if that had happened to me I would probably say the same thing. But if it was me I would have stopped the whole thing once he said the wrong name I wouldn't have went through with it. As for the other I think yes he was in love with Rachel when he said "I take thee Rachel". She was his first true love and IMO you never totally fall out of love with your first. There is always some part that stays with you always. (sappy mod off)

That's so true, Ellie. You never totally fall out of love with your first. And even though you move on, those feelings are always there, sometimes stronger than others. Which kinda explains Ross' behavior over the past two seasons...

Well, I can understand why you feel the way you do about the whole Emily-shabang, but I'm not in on that. I mean; sacrificing your best friend! That's quite a dilemma. I also believe that Ross was in love with Rachel - subconciously (spelled it right?). Ross has always been in love with Rachel.

OK, now, this is just my opinion :) I just got married a few months back and I was so nervous I thought I was going to pass out. The minister had to break up what I was saying into 2-words at a time because I was a wreck - but the minister SAYS the other person's name, so you would really have to have another person on your mind to say it. At my brother's wedding, the best-man (a lifelong best friend to us both), toasted my brother and I instead of my brother and his bride, simply because he was so used to saying our 2 names for 20-some years. If he had someone prompting him, I bet he would have got it right. Sorry, Toni, but I have to think the only way Ross could have said the wrong name due to confusion is if they were saying their vows w/o the minister saying them first. ;) But once again, that's just my little opinion!

Rachel. After Rachel, it was all downhill for Ross. Marrying Emily was a rebound to prove to himself that he could live without Rachel. And, during the ceremony, Ross proved that it wasn't possible, as he blurted out Rachel's name, knowing full well that he wanted Rachel to be standing next to him. Remember when he was ordering flowers for Emily? He said that "Rachel" was his wife.
