Category nominations for the ATF 1999 Awards are in! Now it's time to nominate who you think would be best for each of the categories.

Anyone who has posted in alt.tv.friends during 1999 is eligible to be nominated, so he/she doesn't still need to be a member, and anyone who wants to (come on, lurkers!) can nominate people. Please try to base your nominations on posts from January 1999 through December 1999, disregarding posts so far in 2000. And it would be extremely helpful if you could include a few short explanations of why you think people should be nominated. It's not absolutely necessary, but this would help us out a lot when we have to post a review of all the nominees before the actual voting.

Nominations will be kept confidential, so please send them to me at [email] . Voting closes on Monday, January 31, 2000, so... "Do it! Do it now!" :)

Best On-topic Poster: Best Off-topic Poster: Best On-topic Thread: Best Off-topic Thread: Best Overall Poster: ATF Lifetime Achievement Award (the person you think has contributed the most to the newsgroup over the years, not just 1999): Most Improved Poster: Best Newcomer: Most Missed Poster: Poster Most likely to be in ATF 10 years after the show has been cancelled: Poster Most likely to be arrested for stalking a member of the "Friends" cast: Poster Most likely to threaten a "Friends" writer's life: Funniest Poster: Friendliest Poster: Poster Most dedicated to Ross & Rachel: Poster Most dedicated to Monica & Chandler: Poster who spoils us the most: Poster who wants to be spoiled the most: Most Tactless Poster: Worst Poster:

Remember, these are just the nominations to narrow it down to a few people per category. Once they're all in, you'll be able to vote for the actual winners. And once *those* are in, Tina will be writing a wonderful awards ceremony. :) Thanks for voting!

I have this terrifying feeling I'm going to win this category. :-)

Hellooooo!!! After getting drunk in Vegas, Claire Abraham doodled cat whiskers on his/her face and miaowed this little lot at a statue...

No no no, trust me, I think I'll win this one. :) (Do we count for nominations, Larissa?)

Well, I'm hoping so, because we already have been... Does anyone object to that?

But how is it that I can already *guess* at least one thing I've been nominated for?! :)

I hearby declare that I did NOT nominate myself in this category. Oh, how mortifying. Oh, the humanity! :-)

Hellooooo!!! After getting drunk in Vegas, Claire Abraham doodled cat whiskers on his/her face and miaowed this little lot at a statue...

I hereby declare that I honestly have no idea who I'm going to nominate for this category, if I even can, and as a result will probably therefore end up nominating myself. Ditto the 'oh, the humanity!' :)

You know, Claire, I really don't think this conversation has helped our chances of not being nominated one iota. :) (Just coincidentally, I did *not* nominate myself either. Noooooooooo.)

That's OK. We deserve the ribbing, I guess.

I like the "I guess" tacked on there. It's sorta like, "no we don't, damn the writers." ;) Btw, have you seen TOW Ross Got High yet?

Don't flatter yourself. You didn't make my list.

So am I, as it happens. There are a lot of good posters who deserve to be recognised.

The thing where people were upset about the nominations? That isn't going to happen this year because anyone can nominate anyone, even themselves, and I'm taking it all. If someone's mad that they didn't get nominated this year, it's their own fault for not nominating themself. ;)

I still bet it wouldn't go over well with people since I can kind of predict the winners already since I've seen nominations.

How are you supposed to know if you like a CD if you haven't bought it?

Haven't heard that. I don't really like country.

Try IRC. I think you'll be fine and unpossessed if you stay on DALnet and in the mp3 room only.

Oh you're very welcome, clearly what I said. :P

Soccer would be its proper name (here) because it's short for "association football." First there was football (our soccer), then rugby football, which allowed handling the ball, and association football, which banned handling the ball, and which was shortened to soccer.

Don't ask me, I really pay no attention to it...

Football was the first code in Australia before the other handling games such as packielackey (rugby league) and tiddleywimps (Victorian Rules) adopted the term.

Later in the 1940s, football began using the term 'Soccer Football' to distinguish it from those other pretend codes. By the early 1960s the term football was dropped.

Today most real football fans refer to soccer as football. It does create an element of confusion to those non-football fans but never to the football fan or player.

The Olympics will rekindle the proper usage of the term football here in Australia.
