How come Rachel's mum was never seen in the later years..., was there ever an explanation for this?

She was hot stuff for a bird in her sixties.

I know we didn't actually see that happen, but she did say something about being tempted in the lesbian wedding epsiode.

I did remember that when we saw Rachel's father lastweek(?) and there was no sign of her mother.

Well, she said she was thinking of leaving him in TOW Lesbian Wedding, and by TOW Two Parties, they were already split (that's why they had to have two parties, one for each parent), so while they didn't actually deal with the split itself, it's pretty well implied that it happened.

Off the top of my head, I recall seeing her sometime before Emma was born... I think it was the baby shower episode... when Rachel freaked about not knowing anything about babies (and how to take care of one), so Rachel's mom offered to stay with her and Ross to help take care of the baby.

There's been at least references of her helping to take care of the baby from time to time, though I don't recall at the moment if we ever see her.

Could be for either or none of these reasons:

1. Marlo Thomas, who played the role, is a wealthy woman is real life and doesn't need the work. She also has other things going on -- she has her own production company and is involved in St. Jude's Children's Hospital, founded by her husband Danny. Maybe they've asked her a few times and she's been unavailable, or she just doesn't want to act that often.

2. Thomas is notoriously difficult to work with -- supposedly she showed up for her last "Friends" appearance without having learned her lines. Maybe the producers just don't want to deal with her that often.

That's a horrible thing to say about Marlo. The "Danny" is her father, not her husband. Danny Thomas would be 90 right now if he hadn't died back in 1991.

Marlo Thomas has been married to Phil Donahue since 1980.

Whoops - I knew that. I don't know why I typed "husband" when I meant "father", but I don't want to get into any weird psychological issues. :)

St. Jude's was founded by her FATHER not her husband. Marlo Thomas has been married to Phil Donahue for years
