Emmy Promotes Perry Primetime Emmy ballots were delivered to voters in the TV industry over the weekend, and Variety notes that, for the first time, the entire cast of "Friends" does not appear in the supporting category. Because of this season's beefed-up Chandler and Monica storyline, Matthew Perry has been promoted to lead actor status. Elsewhere on the ballot, Courtney Cox is now listed under her married name, Arquette, which pushes her to the No. 2 spot in the alphabetically listed supporting actress category . . . right behind costar Jennifer Aniston.

Am I stupid? I don't get it. I thought the actors chose which category they entered into. This makes it sound as if the Emmy people (whatever they're called) promoted him. And *just* him--if he's considered for Lead Actor because of the Chandler and Monica storyline, why is CCA still under Best Supporting Actress?
