Of course, considering the circumstances he was currently under (just having a baby), I don't think the thought of Emily was anywhere near his mind. And even though they begin with the same two letters, "Emma" and "Emily" are two different names, and of two different people. They consented to it because it was Monica's special name, which she "gave" to his daughter.

Maybe because normally, people don't call an Emily "Emma" (at least, I've never heard that). So, where exactly is the connection? I think Emma's a pretty name.
Because it's awfully close... Emily.. Emma... Emma... Emily... its just too close for comfort. If my bitchy ex-wife's name was Julianna, I wouldn't name my daughter Julie. It just stirs up too many painful memories.

Emma and Emily sound similar, but mean two different things. According to the Reader's Digest Dictionary of Names, Emma means grandmother, while Emily is feminine of Emile, which was a Roman clan.
OTOH, the sound of the name might very well *be* the issue. Apparently though, no one seems to have a problem with it.
Ah, well, I suppose I understand that, but once you get into the meanings and origins of names, you'll find that even with the similarities, the names are different.

I missed the last half hour of the Friends finale because i didn't know it was an hour long and the vcr...(you know it).
