GROSS! Damn this sounds like a crappy sweeps moment waiting to happen. Since when have they shown Phoebe's birthday anyway? Also..yes Phoebe isn't exactly the smartest person, but how could she not know how old she was????????

Well, remember all that upheaval when she was young -- mother dying, etc. I had for a long time an idea that revolved around the fact that all the characters must be over 30 by now but they never talk about it. Like this one, I thought of Phoebe's not knowing exactly how old she was (though it involved reminiscences of the other characters' 30th birthdays and then Phoebe realizing she'd passed hers and never done anything, so everyone was trying to come up with a decent 30th birthday for Phoebe).

Claiming that your dead mother has returned as a cat (one example) is not a sign of grounded thinking, in my opinion. Maybe there's a place that her minds lives where her thoughts make a lot of sense but it's not here on earth. I'm not saying she can't be intelligent but she's still weird.

Yes, Phoebe had a bad childhood. The writers have invented Phoebe to have an extra hard childhood to "explain" why she is so different and thus she brings humor to the stories with her funny perspectives. I don't think there is actually any deeper basis as to why they write her like they do. I doubt if any of them are psychologists. And because she is purely fictional, we don't have any proof as to her "real" thoughts (because she isn't "real"!).

We are trying to psychoanalyze a fictional person here. She the way she is because she's funny that way. We can try to find things in her past to explain her but I believe the writers only care whether she is funny or not.

There are some people who think mostly with one side or the other. Take artists-right brain, mathematicians-left brain. I don't believe there is anyone on earth who only thinks with one side so maybe I overstated my opinion (but not by much). What I meant was that she thinks "similarly" to a right-brained type person. I have seen little evidence in her thoughts being logical and grounded. By logical or grounded, I mean thinking in an orderly and reasoned manner. This has nothing to do with intelligence. There are people who think logically and people who don't. But that doesn't mean that she *never* thinks logically.

Phoebe supposedly did not have the luxury of being guided by parents or having a place to live (as she is written)so she is all over the map (which creates "humor"). That's the main reason she has been given her history. And it works because I think Phoebe is the funniest female on the show.

I'm tired and I'm starting to repeat myself so I'll shut up.

Don't the writers realize that repetition is NOT GOOD!!?? They JUST had joey miscount his age. Can't they come up with new material?

Hasn't there also been something like this before? Someone had some kind of list of things to do before they died or reached a certain age?

I don't think having 2 intra-friends couples at the same time will work. But if this means chandler and monica break up, i say go for it. Then again it will be EVEN MORE repetitive, because all the friends will have been involved with another friend. Will someone give the writers clue, and tell them to watch seasons 1-4 of a show i don't think they've ever seen. It's called "Friends."
