LK & JA nominated for Emmy

Both LK and JA received Emmy nominations for supporting actress. Friends also was nominated for best comedy.

LK didn't surprise me at all. Even though this was arguably Phoebe's worst season, they seem to really like her. It's become tradition. I thought she was terrible this year (Phoebe, not LK), but that's just my opinion.

JA was a total shock to me. While I thought she deserved it in past seasons, I can't exactly say I've liked the character lately. Rachel's become too dumb and ditzy for me (more like Phoebe, in other words). I though the spoiled, bitchy, yet emotional Rachel was a much better character. Again, that's just my opinion.

MLB deserved it more than anybody, IMHO, if for consistency, more than anything else. He's really the only one who has been playing the same character for the past six years.

Also, MP would have been a lock this year, if it wasn't for the publicist mishap.

Anyway, congratulations to LK and JA, and good luck to both of them. Unfortunately, both actresses will cancel each other out, and I doubt the show has any chance of winning best comedy. So, Friends looks to come up blank this year.

I agree with your entire post, doc..It's a shame Matt Le Blanc wasn't recognized this year, he was great. I too was very surprised tha JA got a nomination..I knew Lisa was an emmy fave, but I just have to wonder why they nominated JA.

Bruce Willis and Tom Selleck also got nominated for their guest roles. Bruce definitely has MP to thank for that.

I was also surprised to see JA on the list, but maybe the academy is finally ready to forgive the cast for being pretty AND funny and make amends for years past. I agree that if JA could get nominated, MP would have been a sure thing, especially if he had stayed in the Lead Actor category (John Lithgow AGAIN???).

I wonder if CCA is being punished for marrying DA? :)

I must have missed these. Personally, I didn't really care for either of their guest appearances. Paul was enjoyable with Ross, but awful with Rachel. Also, Richard wasn't as appealing as he was in Season 2.

I wonder why Reese wasn't nominated. She had the best guest role.

I think that JA is getting rewarded for all of the years she has been ignored. She, next to MP, is probably the biggest fan favorite. While this hasn't exactly been her strongest season as Rachel (she was better in Seasons 2&3, IMO), she still deserves the recognition. Hopefully, the others will get theirs too in the next couple years.

MP would have been a lock for Best Supporting Actor. But MLB should have been nominated as well. I think he deserves it as much as anyone.

CCA and DS had the least chance of the six to be nominated. Hopefully, the writers learn that people don't like screaming and screechy characters.

well, on the abc website, they spelled rachel's last name GREEN. So i guess that answers our question from a while ago.

boy, how bad must Courtney feel??? She's the ONLY female that didn't get nominated. ugh.....

I second that motion - the screechy characters quite often make me want to reach into my TV set and slap them silly. Or slap the writers silly, of course.

It's funny at times, but at others it's just annoying (see "TOW Ross Hugs Rachel", when comforting Rachel).

oh, i agree with you there. It is very funny. But the writers have taken it too far. For ross too.

LK has always been fab, and I really liked her in the fantasy episode.

However, I think it's great that some of the others are recognized as well as LK. She has always been the voters' favourite, but since the voting routines are different this year, who knows what might happen.

MP deserves an Emmy. I even read on the internet that he should have received a nomination just because he is the man who makes people talk like this: "Could that *be* any funnier?"

MLB deserved a nomination this year, but I think the problem is that he plays the "stupid" Joey so well, that people actually think that he's like that.

CCA should have received one last year. After all, she was brilliant in season 5.

Although on the other hand, doesn't the fact that it still got nominated for Best Comedy, in spite of Mondler getting shoved down our throats, kinda maybe even things out in a way? Neither Perry or Cox Arquette get nominated (admittedly Perry didn't get nominated because of *that* gesture), but the show is still seen to have improved enough with their constant presence to get a Best Comedy nod. (Not saying that's the case, of course - just saying how it could be twisted.)

Exactly, but it *could* still be twisted in order to imply that it got nominated because of Mondler, even though I strongly doubt that was actually the case. (To be honest, I think this season had the strongest opening of any season bar S1, and IMHO they could have got the nod just for that.)

Having said that, though, these establishment things are nearly *always* rigged, of course. :)

I've highly feared this, considering the episodes sent in were 609, 615-16 and 624-625---all prominent C&M episodes. The writers could mistake C&M as being the sole reason for Friends' nomination this year. I guess we won't find out until this fall...

(To tell the truth, the only reason Friends was nominated this year was because Ally McBeal was garbage.)

Yes, very true. LK really didn't deserve to be nominated this year, but she is so well liked by those controlling the ballots. This also wasn't JA's strongest year as Rachel, but I'm not complaining, since she has been ignored for so many years where she did deserve it.

It depends on the eps nominated, like TOW Ross got High didn't really have a Mon/Chandler plot. I don't think it's meant as a diss towards Courtney's acting, since there are other actresses out there who were deserving. It wouldn't make sense for them to nominate 2 actresses from friends if they didn' think they were deserving. I doubt anyone was trying to make a point. Rachel has always for some reason been popular with people, while Ross & Monica are the ones who always finish last. The emmy people have better things to think about then some hidden agenda to send a message to the Friends writers.

All the "Favorite Friend" polls that come out like every week are the same. MP and JA are always at the top, and DS and CCA are always at the bottom. It simply has to do with the characters, and not the acting. Everybody loves Chandler and Rachel. Nobody likes Ross and Monica. Popularity is a powerful tool, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Emmy's are starting to realize this. DS and CCA have the unfortunate problem of playing unlikable characters, which won't warrant either of them a nomination anytime soon, regardless of their acting ability.

Personally, I fell CCA and DS are the best characters on the show. Well, the ones I can identify the most with anyway..

Interesting point. Actually, with the exception of DS in Season One (who could have arguably been nominated for Lead Actor), all Friends nominees have been the least utilized characters. Phoebe really didn't do all that much (compared to other characters) during the years of LK's previous nominations. And now this year, Rachel and Phoebe were both given little to do, while certain other characters took the front burner. Strange how this works....

As for CCA, even if C&M weren't on screen so much, I highly doubt she would have been nominated anyway. Monica hasn't impressed me at all since back around Season 3.

MP probably would have been nominated, however, if he was on the ballots.

Ok, guys... you are talking about the characters but the Emmy are all about the actors and actresses.... Although Phoebe was annoying this year, LK is a great actress! But JA, I'm sorry... but I don't know why she was nominated.... she is not a good actress! I think CCA should get nominated because although Monica has never been everybody's favorite character, she is a great actress! MP was good this season too... MLB improved a lot as an actor and DS has always been a good actor in my opinion! But that's just my opinion!

Haha well Monica's my favorite character anyway ;p It used to be Phoebe, but I found myself relating w/ Monica more. Because she's a tv character she's really exaggerated but I think she's like a lot of people. I never really liked Rachel all that much either, too spoiled, and at times whiney. I'm not saying I don't like her, I enjoy everyone in the cast, but Rachel ranks low on my list.
