***Dumbest F*R*I*E*N*D*S Scenes***

Okay there is the "Most Cringeworthy Scenes" thread ... not that cringeworthy is a bad thing ... but now lets start the "Dumbest F*R*I*E*N*D*S Scenes" thread ... not that they are a total detriment to the show, but I just wanted to name one scene that I thought was so dumb, and really unnecessary for a comedy show that is based on reality.

My 'dumbest scene' comes from:

"The One With The Ball" Ep 5:21

At the end when Phoebe moves in with the Gary the cop and they smile at a chirping bird, and then Gary takes out his gun and shoots it to keep it quite. I just thought that was the dumbest scene ever. They could have thought up a better way for Phoebe to want to break up with Gary ... I mean even him punching a bird, or stomping one would have been better ... but taking a gun out in a New York apartment and firing a shot out a window at a bird. I know the 'rumors' about NYC, but it's nothing like that here, and that should never have happened in the series. So that is my 'dumbest scene'.

Definately one of the funniest scenes of friends career, one of the few times when i have laughed out loud during an episode. Usually i just go "hehe" or do a silent laugh during funny moments of Friends.

I agree with you, Kirsten. Brad Pitt's performance stunk like a spoiled piece of meat (i.e., Anthrax). And I also hate the scenes with Ross and Emily. He should've known better than to "marry" Rachel instead of Emily.

The current scenes of Joey pining away for Rachael. I think it's gone on for too long. I could see him being attracted to her sexually, but am not buying that he loves her.

My basic distinction between the two is that although a scene might be cringe-worthy, it might not be stupid as far as the show goes ... for example, "Chandler's proposal to Monica" ... I know a lot of people who cringe at the acting in that scene ... however it's not a dumb scene cause Chandler had to propose to Monica ... dumb scenes are scenes that are just plain dumb and really not needed ... like my example of Gary the cop shooting a bird from his bed to quiet it ... that's just plain dumb (IMHO). ;-)

I actually thought Brad Pitt did a wonderful job on "Friends," and I'm practically cringing typing that because I still hate the bastard for stealing Aniston away from me. He was infinitely better than Bruce Willis and Tom Selleck, both of whom royally stunk up the set during their stints.

I also can't believe somebody listed Ross' leather pants scene as cringeworthy. I thought that scene was hilarious.

My picks for some of the dumbest scenes are:

- Chandler and Joey lose Ben on the bus. The plot was tired and poorly executed.

• Ross and Joey hanging off the balcony. Ugh.

• Phoebe and her gay husband. What was the point of that exactly?

• Phoebe's "Smelly Cat" video. Ugh times two.

- Monica idolizes the lady that steals her credit card. Wow what a stinker that was.

Count me in on thinking the leather pants scene was one of the funniest. Ross' desperate tone of voice, "Oh, I see lotion, I've got lotion ... will that work?" ... Joey (the expert): "Yeah sure throw some of that on." Ross' hand slipping off his pants and smacking himself in the head, classic. Joey telling him to make himself a pair of paste pants. Even the look Ross makes when he gets back to Monica's and tells them he would have been a good cowboy. All around a good scene and episode. That ep. also included Ms. Hornswaggel, Phoebe's guitar cords (e.g. bear claw, iceberg, old lady) ... Phoebe to Joey, "Oh, you just nailed the 'old lady'." And Rachel also found out about Monica and the Chan-Chan man (AKA Mr. Big(ot)) in that one. Okay, enough talk from me.

Another one of my top candidates for Dumbest Friends Scenes is one of tonight's syndicated episodes, "The One With Frank Jr."

Not the whole episode, just the scene at Phoebe's apartment where they are "trying to get acquainted with each other". Sure it was kind of funny, and it wasn't exactly cringeworthy.

Still, and this is primarily due to the new found half brother, the scene was exceedingly dumb. All of a sudden Phoebe seemed like she was no longer from another planet, and that takes some doing. Having some punk running around melting things is not my idea of interesting.

I think it ranks as THE MOST cringeworthy, not dumb, because it is in the realm of reality that Phoebe would act this way towards a cat. I hate the last five minutes of this ep. HATE HATE HATE it, for many reasons:

1. Ross really need to bitch-slap Phoebe for her attitude. Ross, for one of the few times, actually has a rational thought. Pure selfishness on Phoebe's part.

2. Once again, Rachel belittles Ross (the cat, the fat, etc.) Really, Rache, if you can't be helpful, shut the f--- up!

3. The other friends don't step in and stand up for Ross, even though they agree that the cat needs to be returned to its owner. Ross needed to bitch-slap ALL of them.

Sorry, this ep really irks me. (Well, actually just that last five minutes, the rest isn't too bad.)

Hate the whole thing, the removal of the black recliners, the Chip thing, Rachel beeing a total bitch and of course the frelling cat. The dumbness comes from the point that this episode was trying to get across which has to do with one of the exec. producers and the dedication at the end. I could say a lot about TOW The Cat, in fact I have before. I think it was Claire back then who summed it up together perfectly, anybody want to trawl google for her post?
