I don't know how many people here are familiar with the old Broadway musical "Oklahoma!" However, in hopes that somebody might remember some of the songs from that soundtrack, let me offer a "Friend-ly" update on that song, "The Farmer and the Cowman Should be Friends", using personalities from this group to supply the lyrics and spur the song debate as in the original stage play. I will be Aunt Em, a character. If I have chosen you to provide some lyrics *please* feel complimented that I thought of you and not like I'm trying to ridicule you! This is meant to be fun...
I begin the song:
Oh, the Mondlerians and Roschelites should be friends Oh, the Mondlerians and Roschelites should be friends One group like the sigh and chase The other likes peaceful, cohabited space But that's no reason why they can't be friends.
All: Fans of Friends should stick together Fans of Friends should all be pals Let's all cheer the romantic foursome Handsome men and pretty gals!
Jim Squire:
I'd like to say a word for Ross and Rachel... They're so romantic, and he's loved her forever Though they may fuss and fight, we hope they will turn out right
William Pora: He's crazy and she's fickle as the weather!
Larissa: But the Mondlerians and Roschelites should be friends Oh, the Mondlerians and Roschelites should be friends Some think Chandler's the romance king Some think Ross needs back his dream But that's no reason why they can't be friends.
All: Fans of Friends should stick together Fans of Friends should all be pals Let's all cheer the romantic foursome Handsome men and pretty gals!
Activia:
I'd like to say a word for Mon and Chandler Their love is based on friendship everlasting They do not toss and turn, horrid fights don't make them burn
Tina: So why is she so mean to him? Just asking!
( A brawl breaks out. We hear scuffles and chairs being broken. There are shouted phrases: "Ross and Rachel were NEVER friends! Were too!" "Chandler and Monica have no chemistry! Ross and Rachel have no class! etc. In the middle of the brawl, a shot rings out. Aunt Em...er, Claire, has shot the ceiling to get silence. This is an actual scene from the play, don't freak out.)
Claire: (Sternly) It's a blank. Now. William, what are we singing?
William: (reluctantly, seething)
Oh, the Mondlerians and Roschelites should be friends
Claire turns to Larissa, who sings helpfully:
Oh, the Mondlerians and Roschelites should be friends
All: One group like the sigh and chase The other likes peaceful, cohabited space But that's no reason why they can't be friends!
THE END
