i m french and i can't get the Us channels on my Tv so internet is the only way for me to see the new Season of Friends (because we won't see it in France before - at least- 2004 !! ) yeah true, and the worst part is that the episodes are aired with horribles french voices. really horribles. Do you know if i will get the new episodes here TV rip ( imean in alt.binaries.tv.friends), or do you guys only post DVD rips ? Thanks !

You can try kazaa(lite) to download the episodes. (after they're transmitted of course)

Yes i used to do that but i don't want to use those p2p softs anymore. Even Kazaalite is dangerous and these networks contains dangerous viruses. BTW each week there were fake episodes of friends. Don't you remember ? that was really annoying. Someone just told me that he will post the episodes each week on alt binaries tv friends hope he will !! Cheers

And each week there were five people asking here in ATF for the correct file size and ten answering.
With a file size increased by around 30%-50% thanks to Usenet's 7bit text format.

Considering dl queues on irc and p2p, and FTPs usually being rather slow (I do use FTPs quite a lot to get hold of rare Oasis stuff and most of them allow 3 users and you get download speeds as if on ISDN) binary groups are anything but unnecessary if you want to get hold of files easily. Besides, c't is rubbish imo and if you'd been aware of yEnc why would you post outdated facts like an overhead of 30% - 50%?

Because if it's not implemented in Outlook Express, it doesn't exist. Like "Wenns nicht in der Bild steht, ist es nicht passiert." Okay, more formally there ain't no RFC neither. Last time I visited a binary ng, which was in fact a few months ago, there were strictly no yEncoded posts and you've got no guarantee that those Friends episodes won't be posted UUencoded. Plus, every post to a newsgroup is being transfered to every newsserver that hosts that group, no matter if anyone will ever download it from there.

I do, but you'll hardly find any evidence for that, nor am I missing functionality (except a better shortcut for "next unread"). But that's not the point, the point is, that *many* people, the majority by far I guess, use OE, sad but true, therefore only a technology implemented in that program can be really succesful. Maybe I should not have used a German quote to emphasize that.
Somehow not in Usenet, that's why you'd be almost killed in some NGs for using UTF-8, well not as long as you stick with 7 bit characters.
May be so. Good for binary lovers if it has changed in that part. I'm really not into binary groups (nor is my newsserver), mainly because I (and the admin) think there are better ways of distribution.

I doubt you can get as many Oasis bootlegs through whatever you're using as I can with the help of amo, its FTPs and most importantly abmo :P
While this may be true for email functionality and text groups like this one is, it so isn't true. I'd say there's less people who frequent binary groups and use OE than there is people using other browsers than IE.
I don't think anyone just posts a 90+ MB file to a binary group without knowing what he's doing, considering that you have to split the file and everything, so it's more than likely the files will yEnc encoded. I frequent several binary groups and there are only a few mp3 groups who still don't seem to have heard of yEnc, but definitely more than 75% are posted in yEnc by now
If no one accesses the group, it shouldn't be on the server, that's what admins are for
they lost all credibility when they had a several pages long feature on online flirting about a year ago, if I want to read up on IT stuff I use sites like Anandtech or The Inquirer
