He should just say, "Rachel, even though I thought we were on a break, what I did was wrong. I never should have slept with that other girl. I don't know what I was thinking. You are the love of my life. It was the blessing of a lifetime for you to fall in love with me and I was an idiot to let you slip away. And if you can ever see your way clear to forgiving me and taking me back, I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you. Because I love you and I always will."
I'm kind of glad that he stuck with his "we were on a break" cos they clearly were on a break and Rachel was a total bitch about it.
As a girlfriend she was totally self involved not really considering him. I was a big RnR fan and nearly jumped for joy at the final scene of ROss finds out but that excitement quickly died after I saw 'the one where noone's ready'. ROss has this important event and she was being a total bitch. Needless to say I cheered when at the scene on the plane when Rachel gets an earful of what she really was.
So I think Rachel should say "I'm sorry Ross. YOu were right all along. We were on a break. And I'm even more sorry for making you sound totally insane every time you said that we were on a break."
And I would say "Ross. Thanks for sticking to your point or less we would have been subject more of this pathetic relationship."
No offence to any R&R fan but they really ruined the relationship when they started fighting.
Let me get this straight. After nearly a full decade, Ross's dream girl, the love of his life, unexpectedly falls in love with him, making all his dreams come true . . . but you're saying he should let her get away because she won't apologize for being upset when he sleeps with another woman mere hours after she suggests they take a "break."
On Thu, 13 Sep 2001, Strand9999 stated this considered view. Waking from my doze, I hastily scrawled -
Are you kidding - in TOW the Morning After, Ross already made an abject apology! It is Rachel who now needs to give ground by making a long- overdue acceptance of his apology!
Rachel should have accepted his apology, but he could have just kept his mouth shut during the episode after they got back together on the beach. Let her mumble for five more minutes if he wants to be with her..
He screwed up. He groveled some for it. She demanded that he keep groveling, and he decided after awhile that he'd done it enough.
The REAL question is...if she doesn't want him, why does she keep inviting him into her life, over and over again, AFTER they broke up? Count how many times, since their breakup, that she's professed love for him, expressed jealousy about him, proposed marriage to him, etc... I think it's just mind-boggling that the writers have never really had a character note this pattern with her.
Well, knowing Rachel, she'd have some sort of excuse. :) And besides...as you've noted numerous times, Claire, since it wasn't a C&M issue, the writers didn't feel it needed attention. ;)
Never in the history of the world has any guy's Total Dream Girl (TDG) fallen in love with him after a decade of complete disinterest. It's never happened. It never will happen. Therefore, as a fictional representation of this scientific impossibility, it is Ross's sacred duty to grovel at Rachel's feet for as long as she will have him.
When I was 15, maybe. Now, forget it. So she haunts my fantasies for a few months. So what.
Mind you, we're talking about the Rachel of season 3, not necessarily the Rachel of season 7 & 8.
Not so fast, sparky. Besides, your reasoning is quite shallow. There are two items under discussion here, and you are running them together. (1) Is it right for Rachel to treat Ross like a yo-yo? (2) Does Ross care if it is right or not?
These two questions are distinct and should be answered separately. My answers to these two questions right after 208 TOW The List were (1) no, and (2) no. Actually, Rachel's behavior was not then subject to anything like the critique that she gets now (in spite of the fact that she was malicious and selfish in her attack on Julie, trying her best to sabotage a very wonderful relationship her "best friend in the whole world" was enjoying, only to throw him away because of a short list of flaws that she herself was concerned about - at least to the extent of being concerned that others might know about them and she couldn't keep them to herself - hey, that does sound like a yo-yo after all ;-) ).
What I said at the time is that Ross doesn't care how wrong she was, he's still going to wait for her. In saying this, I was acknowledging that Rachel was wrong. Since then, the wrong has been compounded over and over again.
