Hey all. Just caught the Season 4 Ep when Chandler hooks up with Janice again briefly (415, TOW All the Rugby). Please respond to my post with the usual intense flurry of indifference.
Ugh.
It started out very promising, with a lot of good interaction between the friends . . . the subplot of Monica and the "mystery switch" was very good, and did a nice job of bringing out the friends' personalities.
However, this seemed to me to be a "hinge" episode . . . a prophetic ep, hinting at the crap that was to come. Chandler's actions during the entire ep were completely unbelievable, and was (once again) simply stock sitcom writing, as opposed to more subtle humor tied closely to the character. I simply didn't swallow that Chandler could go from being deeply in love with Janice to finding her deeply annoying. And I really didn't buy that ridiculous Yemen thing either.
Ross' plot was no better. "Red Ross"??!? The beginning of Angry Ross, who seems to have a yelling quota for each episode past this one. Once again, we have a stock sitcom situation here -- man gets pride hurt, and goes to stupid lengths to regain it. I did like the scene with Ross and Emily on the couch after the match, though.
Phoebe and Rachel wasted -- no significant contribution.
