TONIGHTS EPISODE!!

ok this episode was 621..so here's some space, major spoiler for this episode!

TOW Ross Meets Elizabeths Dad

Ok, first of all OMG THAT WAS HILARIOUS! This is DEFINITLY one of the best of the season. I was chocking with laughter at one point.

There were 3 main storylines this week. Pheobe was writing a book about Chandler and Monica, Joey almost gets fired on his show because the "cheese" doesnt like him *the man that operates the robot*, and then the main one. Ross meets Elizabeth's Dad Paul and then Rachel ends up being with Paul.

Pheobe began writing every word that Chandler and Monica said. Neither one of them liked this. We see a series of small disagreements *which are quite funny* and then the last one we see is a fight about what time they said the movie was, which they ended up missing because they both thought it was a different time. Phoebe had written it in her book, so they were curious as to what actually happened. Pheobe made them admit that they liked the book. Then she tells them that they both thought it was at a different time and they became angry because she knew they were going to miss the movie but wrote it in the book instead of telling them.

Joey's first day at his new show. He meets the person that operates the robot and at first thinks that he is the robot. When he finally sees the robot he isnt that pleased with it and shows his discontent to the creater/operator. Then the operator dislikes him. Joey thinks that maybe he could fire him since he is the lead, but then finds that the operator can fire him since he is the only one that can operate the robot. They start having auditions for Joey's part. So then Joey trys to charm the operator, which doesnt work. The operator than asks Joey to help him meet women and he will make sure that he doesnt loose his job.. Chandler and Joey scene *smile*.

Ok, and I saved the best for last! Paul(Bruce Willis) meets Ross and immediatly dislikes him. Ross tries to charm him but just gets himself deeper into the hole. Then Chandler, Monica, Joey?, and Pheobe show up and they try to make him seem really good. Then they find that a lot of people in his life died, wife, sister, roomate. So all of their stories dont help. Paul left his keys at the coffee house and ends up meeting Rachel and they hit it off so she takes him upstairs. At first Ross is upset about Rachel kissing Paul but then she tells him that she can help him. Paul, Elizabeth, Ross, and Rachel then go to dinner together and Rachel tells all these stories about Ross which all backfire. Finally, Ross gives up and Ross and Paul agree on one thing, that they dont like Ross.

**************COMMENTS***************

The Chandler+Monica+Pheobe storyline had its moments, but not the best. There was some good one liners. But one important thing was said YEA CHANDLER SAYS HE REALLY SHOULDNT WEAR THAT COLOR- which I agree completly!!!! Now just the hair!

The Joey storyline had its moments, but not the best. I liked the last scene in this storyline with chandler and Joey, and when he first met the guy and thought he was the robot! ohh and Joey's sandwiches hehe

OK NOW THE BEST!! This one had me LITERALLY rolling on the floor lmao chocking almost. When all of Ross's stories came out and he saw them in a new light, how they all made him look bad, even the best ones. Oh and how Paul found out he was married 3 times! That was hilarious..that Rachel. I think this was really good for Ross though, where he could actually evaluate his actions which I dont think he's been doing. Maybe now Ross can move on. Bruce Willis..well I love him anyway, but he was great! I really enjoyed seeing him on friends and can't wait for the other 2 episodes, with the way this is going, this is really like a firecracker going off with sparks flying all over hilarious for me. I hope you guys enjoyed this one as much as myself.

Shrug. It bored me. I'm glad you liked it.

That's one possible interpretation. I came out of it with a perspective on how one person judges another; if you have a predisposition to hate somebody, you will find a way to interpret everything they do in the worst possible light. (Conversely, of course, if you love somebody you will make excuses for them. We all do this in the newsgroup all the time.) Paul's interpretation of the Prom Night incident was clearly unfair. I'm not sure they discussed Ross' marriage failures in enough detail for him to actually learn anything from the ridicule. They just mentioned that they happened in the clumsiest way possible. It made for good comedy, and I agree that the scene was very well done. As for Ross suddenly disliking himself... no, I think he just found a way to appease Paul that left him with permission to continue seeing Elizabeth. It also pointed out that Elizabeth really liked him and didn't care that he had made mistakes in his life. Ross would do well to surround himself with more people like her and fewer people like Rachel.

The bottom line, as Larissa says: they did it because it was funny. And it really was funny. This is a good storyline and it's going well.

Grin. Anybody notice that the man who has condemned Ross for dating a woman so much younger than himself is guilty of the same thing? Paul's a hypocrite. It's certainly not bad writing, and I sure do believe it, but it's food for thought. Rachel is also a hypocrite; when Ross dated Jill and Rachel was uncomfortable, she barked orders and he backed off. Now that Rachel has put forth a very awkward and unpleasant dating situation for Ross to watch, he objects once and she gets her way, all her way, exactly as she wants it. Once again, I think this is very plausible writing, but people are harder on Ross than on others who do exactly the same things.

For the rest of the story: Joey and CHEESE doesn't suck, and I'm glad to see Joey getting work and I'm VERY glad they didn't make him lose his job immediately. This subplot was fine.

I am very, very, very tired of Mondler. Very, very tired. They do not work, they are not funny, and their stories are very creaky and contrived. I wish they'd just go away. Or better, Monica should just go away and Chandler can reemerge from his cocoon.

And it did hit me why everybody here is so much more upset about Matthew's weight gain than I am. I really paid attention tonight, and it's suddenly clear. He looks middle-aged. He could golf with Paul. Now, I'm getting into middle age myself, so seeing people who have looked younger doesn't bother me as much.

But didn't you notice that Bruce Willis has hair again?! I haven't seen the likes of this since the 80's!

I disagree. He seemed to have said this in a matter of a fact kind of way. I would have agreed if I just saw the script, but the way he said it. Then he was happy that this made Paul and him get along a little better.

Yep, but it could have had something to do with her age also. She isnt as scared from past relationships as an older girlfriend would be. Which is the point of that thread I was making on jealousy.

Yep, Ross always seems to give in to Rachel though doenst he. But, I'm not sure he would have accepted it so quickly if not for the fact that she was going to try to help him.

Who's to say he's going to loose it. He hasnt yet, but I could see him loosing it later on.

Ok, I really dont see this as a Mondler sub plot. Mondler is more when they are both acting the same, in this one they were playing out some typical aspects of a relationship. My first reaction to this storyline was plausable because the writers threw in some food for thought. People will believe anything as long as its a compliment, was the one that stuck most in my head. We also saw Chandler and Monica having some typical couple fights which is extremely realistic. We see their reaction to someone documenting this. But some people dont enjoy watching a couple, so I can understand why they wouldnt like watching this sub plot as much and thought of it as lack of ideas and just throwing it in. But I do. I like to watch human behavior and this sub plot pointed out some underlying themes in human behavior. Yes, I know this is called friends not couples, but hey cant we EVER see them as couples. I think that some of the other Chandler and Monica storylines were poor compared to this one, I keep going back to TOW Joey's fridge. But I wouldnt call this one bad. I also think that they could have had this sub plot later on so there wasnt so many storylines in a row with C&M then I feel people would have felt better about it. The writers dont tend to think ahead as much, I gather. I would have rather liked to see some different sub plots before this episode and not C&M ones than I could have enjoyed it even more. The balance is a little off and thats distasteful.

It's the hair and clothes. Hopefully he'll never wear that god awful color again now!

He sounded relieved and ingratiating to me. That's a huge and very powerful, painful statement to make about yourself if you actually mean it; remember the scene where he arrives with gunk on his legs, ruined pants and declares himself a loser? The anguish in his voice was overwhelming. Or the moment when he realized his flirting was *really* bad? You saw a real change in David's expression, his entire demeanor. He physically completely deflated and became very subdued. The degree to which Ross was facing his failure in each case was unmistakable. If Ross had reached some kind of epiphany, and really felt he was an unlikeable person, it would have hurt him in the same way to say that to Paul, but there was no pain in his delivery. As you said, he was very calm, pleasant, and matter of fact. Almost happy. Ross got angry about Paul's abuse, prepared to fight, was cowed by Paul's understated intimidation, and then Elizabeth stepped in and made Daddy back down. Ross, relieved that the tide of the conversation was finally turning his way, was prepared to do and say anything to seal the deal.

Your point being... what? That if Elizabeth was more experienced, she wouldn't like Ross?

Does that make it all right? I'm surprised that somebody didn't turn that foible into a plot point, or at least a comic zinger.

Or his show could just get canceled. A lot of pilots fail early.

The fact that it was a couples subplot is not, to me,  the problem.   We
have hit the same problem with Chandler and Monica that they eventually
hit with Ross and Rachel; they ran out of good ideas.  When they did
that with R&R, they called it a day.  This just goes on and on and
on...  Maybe they need to have some C&M stories written by people who
have been in an affair that lasted awhile.  I thought the humor in this
storyline was weak, thin, contrived and tired. I thought all three
actors were phoning it in.   It wasn't profound or funny.  I am glad you
enjoyed it more than I did .

It just didn't appear planned to me. It appeared more like he was talking to himself and Paul over heard and he was delighted that Paul was happy about this.

That she doesnt have past relationships to influence current ones. So she has no fear or insecruity yet.

Well I watched it today with 2 other people. They were laughing at this sub plot, so it seemed they enjoyed it. YOu can't please everyone.

well not really, there was joeys story and ross story, and the writers didnt know what to do with the other three so they created this lame phoebe writing thing. Another example of the lack of ideas plaguing the show

What can i say, this storyline ranks right down there with joey's hand twin thing. I'm only sorry mon and chan got caught up in it this time. On the other hand it demonstrates that the writers just can't support a six character show anymore and maybe its time to cut some characters

Its an ok story, and gives Matt the chance to work with his joey character in a setting he's comfortable with, but not the most original of stories. Gee, a geeky guy needs a cool guy to help him score with women, where have i seen this before....

Bruce Willis was ok, though i did find that he overplayed a few parts, and i dont know why they had to keep on restressing the part about him being a widower over and over and over again. Rachel was the best though with her coming in and "helping" out at just the right moments, really made the storyline.

Ok, so 3 storylines. Better?

Well that was more the conclusion of the story, not the story itself.
