Magna cum Laude is Latin for "with great honors." Cum Laude is Latin for "with honors" and Summa cum Laude is Latin for "with highest honors."

I thought 'cum' meant something very different altogether though! :)

No, "cum" means "combined with". If you are referring to ejaculation, or the ejaculate, that should be spelt "come".

You know Tennant....always ready to give an explanation..... He should be a teacher. I can see it now:
student: "Mr. Stuart! Mr. Stuart! I have to go to the bathroom! May I
please be excused?"
Tennant: "Urinating is an important part of the day. It's something we
as humans can not do without. And we should never pass up
the oppertunity to go to the lavatory. Many of the worlds most
important businessdeals are discussed there. It's something
that happens automatically. There was never an art to it, but
some people think that the ancient Mayans did more with it
than others......"
student: "Mr. Stuart.....never mind. I don't have to go anymore, but I do
need some clean underwear. May I go home now?"Sorry Tennant......I couldn't let it go again. :-)

Tennant: Tsk tsk, not now! Why didn't you put your hand up earlier?
student: I did, but it trickled through my fingers.

I'm just really glad he's a good sport about it. There have been people here (I think some of them still lurk) that just couldn't take a joke.

I loved teachers that would tend to ramble off topic, and encouraged them to do so as much as possible. However as a teacher myself, (of adults who have been paid a lot of money to learn), I'm very to the point actually.

Teaching what you teach, you have to be to the point. It's serious stuff. I don't think the teachers at a medical academy would take a break to tell a joke or anything.

not so wierd now! So if you work as an aircraft technition teacher person, Do I have you to thank for safe airways? hey! do you think they could make an aeroplane that could fly low down?

Thank me, and many other thousands of engineers.
The Russians are developing a plane that flies just above the waves, but that's for economy - it's a mistake to think that height equals danger.
The higher you are the safer you are. There's less to hit, you are above the weather, you have a lot more time to take emergency action, and your altitude is a source of energy in itself. Don't forget that driving down the motorway is like continuously falling off a thousand foot cliff.
Tennant
okay then Thank you Tennant and thousands of other engineers!
really?
so it is, you know you've made me a lot less scared of heights now, in a wierd way... :)

thank you very much! now I might just get to America!

Yep, it skims just above the waves, so it gets extra lift.
They have to be careful not to fly into a ship, of course...
Now I'm *very* glad! :)
Tennant
Oh yeah I see how that works.
of course, that would just be scary. Reckon they could create a hovercraft to get accross the atlantic?
you're not getting rid of me that easily :)

Yay! There should be awards for people who fail maths, especially if they're good at it.
Always CC (Who thinks, 'Awards? Why does that sound familiar? . . . . Oh sh-')
Can I get an award for a B? ;)
get back to work! :)
magna cum laude = "with high honors" (cum laude = "with honors" & summa cum laude = "with highest honors"
It's all latin, and standard lingo in academia.
