Anyone watch Good Morning, Miami? Basically, Jake (the main character) was deciding whether he should go out with this perfectly nice girl named Penny although he had feelings for Dylan, who was going out with someone else (Gavin). So what does Jake do? Writes a pro/con list about Penny! And while there were tons of pros, there was only one con. Guess what it was...and no, it wasn't chubby ankles.
I can't believe an NBC sitcom on Must See TV Thursday would rip off Friends so directly.

This sort of creative cannibalism is nothing new. Even Friends has been guilty on occasion. Some people have commented that the apartment search storyline in episode 807 is very reminiscent of an episode of Seinfeld. But the most blatant example that I know of was episode 711, TOW All the Cheesecakes. The writer, Shana Goldberg-Meehan, recycled an old episode of Mad About You, #411 - 'Get Back', which she and Seth Kurland had written four years earlier. They didn't even bother to change the type of cake that was misdirected. I'm sure there are other examples if you go looking for them. Someone once said there are no new ideas, only new combinations of old ideas. The unfortunate part is when they're so obvious about it.

As I recall, a replacement cake is sent and she eats that one too. Later, she lies about ever having received any cakes. For a long time I had thought that episode was similar to the Friends episode but I didn't learn until recently they were written by the same people.
