I think Lisa Kudrow must thank God every day that she has one of the easiest (and best paid) jobs in the world. I made a quick count and she had only 194 words of dialogue in this episode (#822 � Rachel is Late). They fit on one page. At the current salary of 750K/ episode, that works out to $3866 PER WORD. But setting aside how incredibly fortunate and rich these actors are, it's a shame how uninspired Phoebe has been in this show lately. It's like the writers have forgotten her character traits and relegated her to the sidelines. Her lines and demeanor were distinctly un-Phoebe-like. She was not called upon to display any sort of emotional range and was little more than the cynical odds-maker taking money from Monica. I think it would have been more true to her character and entertaining if, for example, Phoebe had blurted out a far-fetched prediction for Rachel's late delivery date based on a psychic message she received while washing her feet. Monica, of course, is dubious because it conflicts with her highly organized world view. Phoebe has to defend the paranormal realm and reluctantly agrees to Monica's bet, which she keeps winning each day, growing ever more gleeful with her winnings. I think that would have been a better contrast to the passivity she displayed when Ross discovered the bet. Phoebe, of course, has not been as quirky or flighty and she was originally written in a long time, but she is becoming downright drab. I think an interesting test will be if she brings her guitar to the hospital when Rachel is having her baby. If she doesn't, then apparently she's not required to entertain or comment through her songs anymore. Another contrast to episode 123 (TOW The Birth) will be to see how the relationship between Monica and Chandler has changed. Way back then, even before they were dating, they had great chemistry and one could imagine their compatibility. That spark is long gone. By the way, let me say if Jennifer Aniston is not pregnant in real life then just the idea absolutely agrees with her. She seems to have gained a little weight and looks much healthier. Of course she has professionals to do her makeup but her hair and complexion just seem to glow. She looks great.

Why not? That was one of the best things about being pregnant was wearing bikinis to the beach. You know many women have nude photographs taken while they are pregnant. I did and I definitely don't have the body or good looks that JA does.

I can't say I've seen in real life the sort of clothing that Rachel has been wearing. But it seems an improvement, because it's not hiding the pregnancy, and it's not that frilly stuff that marks someone as a mother.

I agree that if you feel awful, at least you aught to be able to still look like a million (when you want to) Why try to mask a pregnancy? It's a beautiful thing in its own right. Trying to hide it under a tent isn't the solution. Finally designers are seeing the beauty that they had been ignoring for too long.

There is nothing wrong with looking pregnant, but when you have your pants or skirt under your belly and then a top so small... it just looks hideous. Nope, she was not at the beach. She was 41 weeks pregnant in New York at the beginning of summer, surrounded by billions upon billions of tons of concrete that absorbs and reflects heat at an exponential rate. No wait a minute... wasn't she inside her own apartment? Shame on her for not at least wearing a shirt with sleeves that cover her elbows. Seriously though being that huge with pregnancy makes a woman incredibly sensitive to heat. Modesty may never be in bad taste, but harming yourself and your unborn child by subjecting yourself to excessive heat is in bad taste.

I thought she went out to the doctor in that "beer gut" outfit. Makes the beauty of a pregnancy look obscene. Having carried my 9# baby 3 weeks past term when it was in the 90's and I lived in Detroit I can relate to heat. Being a lady, I can relate to modesty.

My thoughts exactly. All my kids were 3+ weeks late. Two were almost 8 lbs and two were almost 9 lbs. Being only 5'1" and still wearing size 6 when pregnant, I carried all in the front. And if I wore an outfit like Rachel's I would have died of embossment. Opinions change and also vary drastically in different regions. When I had my first 9+ pound baby in the late eighties people did look twice in California when I'd go out wearing a spaghetti strap T shirt type dress. Instead of those ugly balloon shaped dresses with inserted panels. However, in the late nineties when I had my second 9+ pound baby people never looked twice when I'd go to the grocery store wearing a bikini top and cut off 501 Levi shorts with the top buttons undone and folded over.
Personally I think there is no comparison what so ever between the skin of a mother stretched tightly over a nine month fetus and the sagging pouch of a beer belly.

I like your version better but the episode did entertain me nevertheless.
It would be a nice touch if we get to see Chandler and Monica's together pondering about the birth. I'm not too sure though. They have been keeping them apart for the past few episodes in an attempt to make up for boring us with all the ridiculous C&M stories we've had.
JA does look great. Showing off that prosthetic belly with that really tiny top was disgusting though.
