Just curious--in two episodes I can think of, Phoebe uses the psuedonym "Miss Filangi (sp?)". One is TOW Joey's Hand Twin/Vegas weddings at the table where she tries to help Joey convince his hand twin (one of my least favorite subplots, really dumb) and the other is when she's trying to talk to Emilly's mum in England and uses the name to help Ross get out of saying the wrong name. Does anyone know the significance of the Filangi name or am I missing something obvious? Thanks!

you're missing something...just maybe not so obvious...the word is "phalange"...the medical term for the bones of your fingers and toes....you have your distals at the tip...then moving in, you have your middle and finally, your proximal phalanx are at the base. however, your thumb has no middle phalanx. same structure goes for your foot.
i suppose pheebs heard the word at her doctor and decided that if she ever wanted to play a fake doctor, which she has on the two occasions mentioned, that this was a cool medical-sounding word that would give people the idea that she knows what she's talking about...even if she really doesn't.
also phalange = finger/hand = hand twin?

I disagree.. I bet when she lived on the streets she was tricked, conned, taken advantage of in a number of ways. She just has a different approach to a lot of things, that's all, some clever, some silly.

Stuff like that happens all the time though. One similar situation is the name for the robot, R2D2. The way I heard it, Lucas was working on a film and wanted to edit a segment that was stored in a can labeled R2D2. He liked the sound of it, and jotted it down for later use.
