Question about Joey

I don't post much but have enjoyed reading the posts since I "found" this group a few weeks ago.

Something that has always puzzled me about Joey is that he shows a lot of respect, reverence even, for the women of his family, to the point that he was willing at one point to pound on his best friend to defend his sister's honor. This being the case, I have often wondered why he then uses and discards women so readily in his legendary conquests. (I've also wondered what if all of these women's brothers came after him in the same way he was going to go after Chandler...but that's probably another question altogether...) Only the women in his own family are deserving of respect?

Yes that's true...just all his one night stands aren't worthy of his respect I guess (then again if I were a one night stand I wouldn't expect respect). The people about whom he cares he's very loyal to. I love Joey, he's my favorite character on the show, that's why I've wasted so much brain space on this puzzle <G>.

You know what has always been my thinking and i've heard it used quite often: that a sister knows what a good man is by the way their brother treats his women...okay let me refraise...the brother or father sets an example to the women in the family of how a man should treat women. Joey is setting a bad example maybe thats why his sisters pick such losers.

Good point Sofya. I'd like to think that Joey makes sure they all understand the ground rules going in, but I have a feeling it's left to assumption.

His sisters or atleast Dina had no idea of Joey's reputation in high school. He obviously keeps his girlfriend away from his family and has been dishing out advices to sisters that he never followed. Hyprocritical? Yes but his sisters didn't learn from him.
