They seem to have vanished without trace. I haven't seen any of Season 9 yet, so I dont know if they have popped up in it, so far.
Why we're on the subject:- Frank Buffay Snr. Makes a brief appearence in Season 5, and then disappears without trace - in fact, I can't recall Phoebe mentioning him since!!

What I think, is that because animals are unpredictable and difficult to work with, not having them around will be easier.

Remeber, that Joey's favourite little sister got pregnant about the time when Rachel did? Hard to believe, 'Uncle Joey' never mentioned them or was at the Birth.
Another mistake I just recognized: In one of the earlier seasons Phoebe is angry about herself cause in February she gave only two massages this year (And they were the woorst tippers ever): It were Ross and Monica. How woul dyou explain the episode in season 8, where it comes to some embaracing scenes due to Monica's 'massage-behavior' (In fact, the whole plot wouldn't make any sense ;o)?
In "Lost Episode #713", there was a minor incident with a vacuum cleaner, quite horrific, feathers and all.....didn't make it past the censors.......
